It'll be an interesting season- lots of streams that wouldn't dry till July or August are already pretty thin, making spawning tough on lots of different species. Then again, lots of species spawned earlier than normal this season, so maybe it won't be so bad. Only time will tell....

I wonder if we'll have more bear encounters...

I can tell you this, I've shelved my plans to go chasing those wily little wild rainbows on Mill Creek. They're going to have a tough summer ahead of them, I think. No need to add to their troubles unless and until we get some significant, sustained rains.

I don't worry about the short term, it's the long term that can be devastating. You see records being broken and you think back to events like the dust bowl, one still waiting to be broken. It wouldn't have the same effect today, it would be much worse.

Throwing the ball to my dog yesterday in a mowed field near my house, when he'd run after the ball. he'd kick up little dust puffs as his paws hit the ground.

We got a few sprinkles. It's so dry that I have cracks in my lawn that are opening up into wide, yawning chasms. Grass in the sunny front yard is almost fully dormant now...May 29th. Should be glossy and green and swelled with moisture at this point.

We got a rain, but that is only the second this month. The rain through this area and northern AR has really been spotty, and we've consistantly missed the spot.

Some things are thriving, I have grapes and honeysuckle in one area that's beginning to look like Kudzu.

STL barely got .25" last night, if that...

We're supposed to get some real rain on Thursday. Hopefully it will be enough to bring the rivers up a bit.
