Jerry Rapp Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 I read this and shook my head. Release Elk in the wild, and then shoot them when they get out and start roaming? Am I missing something here? http://www.dailystatesman.com/story/1853386.html
Wayne SW/MO Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 Well you can't just let dangerous animals roam wild. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Outside Bend Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 For better or for worse, it's the deal MDC struck with local landowners- if elk become a problem, they'll be removed. <{{{><
Stoneroller Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 The entire elk scam is nothing more than a pet project of someone high up in MDC who wants to be able to shoot elk in missouri. It has zero to do with conservation and everything to do with creating another self justifying situation just like nonnative fisheries. The entire reason the elk are being brought back is simply so a hunting season can be established, it serves no other purpose than that. MDC has readily admitted this fact, one of the reasons I'm so critical of them. Can't take the time to put a 18" minimum on smallmouth, won't bother protecting the mountain lions that are repopulating on their own, it's better to waste taxpayer money to reintroduce a herd animal so people can kill it. you aren't missing it. the stupidity of it all is hitting most everyone right between the eyes. don't they dart the elk to capture them to bring them here? why wasn't this one darted after it got loose? seems like they'd be prepared for this, or maybe they were. jdmidwest Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 They had to complete the research project. Final lesson, let's see how MO elk taste! "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
oneshot Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 Like a Guy told me the other day we are not dealing with the same MDC we did as little as 15 years ago and it's not for the Good. oneshot
Feathers and Fins Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 Lots of good money and time wasted that could have been used on Quail and other Game that needed it far more. I say HIGH fence them and let some people blast them and start putting the money for the shoots to projects that need it. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Chief Grey Bear Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 I keep hearing this whole quail thing, but reality is when you control less than 2% of the total land mass of the state, there is not a lot you can do. That is the responsibility of the land owner. Feathers and Fins Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 Ok Chief then how about something easier say a few Waterfowl Management areas in the South Zone! https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Outside Bend Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 Ok Chief then how about something easier say a few Waterfowl Management areas in the South Zone! How is creating wetlands to blast ducks any different than creating range to blast elk? <{{{><
