I would welcome that petition and would also like to see a speed limit on boats from Cooper Access on up to the dam. They come barreling up there too often and then immediately cut engine. It's very disturbing to the quiet fishermen.

What would that speed limit be? It annoys me more when someone thinks they are being courtious by running quarter throttle past me when is reality they are throwing a much bigger wake by plowing the stern of the boat way down in the water. Also I had a very close encounter by Monkey Island a month or so ago with a guy doing just that in some sort of big backtroller rig. He had the bow so high he couldn't see what was in front of him. I was busy fighting a fish, and heard a boat but had no idea he was headed straight for me about 50 feet away. When his passenger yelled I looked up to see him making a sharp turn and throw a gigantic wake that nearly tossed me in the lake.

Some time back I posted a question about this very thing. With a jet I can swing wide, over the shallow water, and not throw a wake near as high as would be if I throttled enough to pass by in the channel. Most answers were that they would rather I slid by on plane in the shallows.

I could just guide off a jet ski Would not have to move around to much and it would be fun.

Or I could send you to Randy and he can build you a full tournament style V bottom Gator. Then you could forget about plastic boats with whirlygigs hanging under them. From what I've heard though don't let Phil drive it!

That would not work. It is just to far up and this is a navigatable waterway. The channel needs to be clear, completely to the dam. Yes on flat water you need to watch both your wake and speed, but when they are turning 4 you need to be able to get where you are going.

If we could get people to fish correctly 99.9%of the problem would be solved. Put your boat on the shallow side out of the channel, allowing the channel to be used by moving traffic. If fishermen are anchored in the main channel with rods poking out of both sides of the boat, the traffic simply has no where to run. While anchoed on the shallow side toss your tight line baits into the channel edge. Passing boats will not disturb the fish, and you are out of the way.

On the jet ski issue if you are up there you need to be there to fish, not just plow around weaving in and out of the fishing boats at high and med-speeds.

Gator is right, he is no problem as he runs the flats and on top his boat puts out less wake than a 16ft. V bottom. The big Deep V's are a huge problem as most fisherman think that they are being nice by going by at a plow instead of on top and on part throttle other than an idle, they are a disaster.

We need no more rules for anyone to try and enforce, as we have none now. With the new system Missouri is just not capable of handling Taneycomo, on Holiday weekends.

A slow moving boat does more damage to the environment (erosion) and creates more of a hazard than a fast moving boat- most of the time. Regulating speed isn't the answer, nor limiting horsepower. Taneycomo is a very unique body of water. Narrow channels and no current at times then wide channel and fast current at the other end of the spectrum. You can't address both conditions by making one general rule. You're left with common sense boating and there lies the problem... the lack of common sense in a small portion of the population.

Gezzz... I'm getting way to far down this road... I need to go fishing.

I think it would be a whole lot harder to ban jet skis than people realize. I think they could put a 10 MPH speed limit on and eliminate them that way, but then everyone who runs a 225 would be up in arms. I think a law giving berth and low wake passing could be made to stick and if enforced it would probably eliminate a lot of problems.

It would be a pain, but then again it isn't that far up there.

5 or 6 years ago I was fishing at the ramp below the dam and had to pull my flyline to let a bass boat, who appeared to be guiding, pass by, 3 TIMES! He was drifting the other side and didn't want to disturb it apparently.

Here is a solution. You may not be able to BAN them but if you were to say petition for a the area from 65 bridge to the Special regulation area of NO WAKE and no boats allowed in THE SPECIAL REG AREA you would have a better chance at success.

Then you eliminate a lot of businesses most likely. It's too far for a no wake. If you eliminate the upper than a lot of winter fishing dies.

As much as I would probably like it, I don't think it's feasible, or probably fair to all.

So to summarize:

1. No speedos on older men or how about men period.....just icky and no body mentioned the muffin top visual....which has made me turn off of muffins

2. Invite Sarah Palin to jet ski on Taney...as a fund raiser for the Rep. party - what would be the attire to this event?

3. Park in the shallows and fish in the channel...just common sense here - but that is missing with most folks

4. Unless the boats are stacked run on plane to create as little wake as possible - then go slow enough to not create a wake that would make you fall off your boat..almost happened to me one day....while the boat folks wave as they go by.

5. Have on hand at all times a tire to air, air transfer device for small wiener'd ramp people - and be in good enough shape to run like H--L after the transfer is complete.

6. And have ear plugs in when that jet boat comes by with his hair on fire.... :have-a-nice-day:
