Wow, I read all the comments, I can assure everyone that my upmost concern is with those I fish with. Aside from that, let's go on.

A great thought was brought up between myself and the gentleman that does a fishing survey for DNR. His last question is, do you have anything to pass on to DNR or the hatchery, etc.

Think about this one, I think it really has merit. Wouldn't it be great if Conservation along with an app engineer, developed a phone app that gave you a signal, beep, whatever, five minutes before they let the water go!!! Many, many of us carry our phone with us on the water. The system would cost practically nothing for the State, they could even make money on it by charging $3.00 instead of 99 cents or $2.99. No horns, telephone polls, microwaves needed.

I think it would be great....

Where do we draw the line on how much the government has to protect us from endangering ourselves. If I recall, there are signs at all accesses that the river may rise suddenly due to generation. All who fish tailwaters know, the river rises suddenly and gets dangerous.

If you saw the water rising and felt that it may be dangerous to cross, why did you attempt it? Why not wait till the boats start running and get a ride across the river? If you were fishing Rim Shoals, would you have heard the horn?

Bottom line is, you are responsible for your own safety. You can not blame it on a SW Power employee, faulty equipment, or the guy across the stream failing to let you know the water was coming up. The horn is a courtesy, we all know what will happen when they turn the water on. I always used a marker stone and kept a watch on it.

I don't agree with about 99% of what you spew, I didn't say a word about bringing wild game into a resturant to be cooked which is one heck of a shutdown violation, but when you make a quality post steeped in common sense that just screams congrats, I am not afraid to tell you. Kuddos.

Thanks.

I really don't know of any laws pertaining to wild game in a restaurant. It was for a private function and not served to the public for a fee. There are several places that I can deliver ducks around here to have smoked. They do turkeys too. The only rub would be to sell it to the public I believe.

You may very well be right. I just wouldn't think that food from the general public can be prepared in a resturant whether or not it is served for free or not. To big a margin of error for contamination.

One other thing I would like to add. To say government emplyoee's are stupid is just ludicrous. All government employees have very rigorous training that is tops of any industry. How they choose to apply that training is on an individual basis.

When we lived in Florida several restaurants would cook your catch for you, does seem like a bit of a risk however.

You need a horn because the water rises so quickly when you are close to one of the dams. They sometimes release a lot of water all at once so depending on where you are when they start the release, you may immediately head for the bank as soon as it starts to rise and still get swept away.

I'm all about personal responsibility, but this is not a natural situation. The risk comes from the actions of a commercial enterprize NOT from a bad choice the fisherman makes. They should blow the horn and start with 1/2 unit and then ramp up from there with a second horn blast when they increase to full flow.. It wouldn't ost them anything and it might avoid a drowning.

But, if you feel that the water is too swift to cross...... DON'T CROSS. You are responsible for your own safety, not the horn. Don't attempt to drown just to cross the water.

I don't try to cross anything. I head for the nearest bank. I'm not sure what you're talking about.
