I heard that menard is going to anchor the 'newly redesigned' northwest plaza in bridgeton. Probably only need an AK and 500 rds to get to and from your car though...

When I was a kid we would make the journey form Florissant to Northwest plaza to see what was then the largest mall in the world. My how times change!...and so has Florissant!

Also our father used to take my brother and I to Wamser Ferman sporting goods store on Manchester road, which seemed like an enternity to get there. He bought us matching Plano tackle boxes (plastic worm welders) and a zebco reel on I believe a shakespeare fiberglass rod. We always wathced the Virgil Ward show and filled our boxes full of beetle spins and Creme purple worms, sinkers, gold aberdeen Eagle Claw hooks, and so on. Our next door neighbor was an avid bass fisherman who actually was the guy who got me hooked on bass fishing. We went to a local carp lake called "Rock Lake" near Missouri Bottom Road (which is now where I-370 runs thru) with my nieghbor and his family. The neighbor rigged up my line with a creme worm and told me to just throw it out and reel it slowly back in. He went about 100 yards away and started fishing. About the 10th cast a 3 lb bass hit about 5 feet from the shore just as I was ready to lift my rod to make another cast. The splashing and the look of total disbelief on my face caused everyone within 50 yards to rush over to come to my aid. The nieighbor was the first on the scene and kept repeating "I told Ya, I told Ya!" All of this made me start crying and couldn't stop for 2 minutes. Been hooked ever since!

I had one in the Springfield store actually ask me why I wasn't "man enough" to take my family on vacation. I can't remember verbally lighting someone up so bad in my life as I did that day.

I would have asked him to step outside, or at least asked him why HE wasn't man enough to have a real profession to support HIS family.

For some reason I ended up at NW Plaza about, oh, 14-15 years ago to see Donnie Brasco, so whenever that movie came out. What a freakin' zoo! That was my last time there, thank you very much. I hear that by the time they were closing the place, there were fights constantly all over the mall and in the parking lot, and I'll bet the stores moved more merchandise through shoplifting than through sales. Wonder why they couldn't make it? Then fell Jamestown Mall, and my money would be on the Mills to go next. Watch and see. Cabbie's will be the last man standing there.

Florissant itself is still pretty nice...but it's surrounded by a sea of Compton, so the crime soaks in by osmosis I guess. I actually have a house there I need to sell. Anyone interested? LOL Used to be a nice place to live...too bad.

I don't really remember everything I said, but at some point something along those lines came out. My wife finally stepped in when it began to look like he was working up the nerve to say something else. She probably saved him a split lip and saved me a trip to the pokey. I'm no billy-bad-a, but there are some lines you just don't cross...

I tell them I live 45 miles from Branson and would rather sleep in my own bed. That usually shuts them up.

I have a friend, a Jewish carpenter, whom you should get to know. If you do, your life will never be the same.
