I suspect you are right, a guy with a fishing rod is much less a problem than a bunch of drunks. Some places just flat out attract the finest people. When we ended last years float and boat on the gasconade, there was a huge group of people at the Riddle bridge boat ramp just darn near blocking it. They weren't fishing, just a local hangout I guess.

There's a group of folks at that boat ramp seemingly all the time. Last time I fished there, was a group of marines throwing firecrackers in the river. . .

The dam that is there appears to be one of those things that's been there for a very long time. No one seems to know when it was built or who built it. As for the boulders, my understanding is that the folks at Lindenlure claim that they were left there from a construction project that they had nothing to do with. That sounds a bit hinky to me. However since they are down river from them, I imagine they weren't too worried about them.

I admit, it would be interesting to determine when that dam was built and who built it. I might be willing to do the research if someone could point me in the right starting direction .

Through the 1800's there was a mill and dam at that location. I believe it was built in the late 1830's. The mill was on the West side of the creek (you can still see its remnants--"the big square hole") The dam in it's present form was improved in the 30's to increase the size of the lake for recreation purposes. There was a resort there back then...They even had a Hotel and a Ferris Wheel.

It's too bad it's all come to this. My parent's had a place in Lindenlure when I was growing up, until about 6 years ago, and I spent a lot of time fishing & floating the Finley upstream and downstream of the dam. We never had any problems with the creek-goers, and I suspect that the current property owners aren't having any problems either--apart from they can't have the lake/creek to themselves.

Mr Jack Jones, usually all county libraries have some history books on the area. It can take many hours of reading at the library to find what you are looking for. Been there done that. If you can find anything within the history books, then you might be able to expand by looking up the time line in any newspaper archives if they are available.

I call the Riddle Bridge boat ramp Pulaski County Public Beach Number 1. It has to be the most used 10’ of concrete in the state. When I back my rig down the ramp the big girls at the bottom appear to be clueless at the peril their baby’s could be in with a 40 foot 5,000 lbs truck and boat headed their way. Sometimes they will scatter at the last minute, other times I have to remind them that the primary function of a boat ramp is to be a boat ramp.

Last year at the Boat and Float, Jeremy, AL, and I were by that ramp in my jet and one of the local queens dropped her baby in the water (no floatation device or life jacket of any kind) and finally fished her or him out of the water with the baby screaming of course. The baby daddy runs over to check the baby out...after a quick check he determined "He just more scared than anything"...ya think???????

Since we jacked this thread a bit, I'll relate that last weekend I took the canoe to Hooten Town last week and had to part the waters from all the fat girls, babys, and general rednecks who were lounging on the concrete and in the water, just so I could launch a freaking canoe. They seemed ticked at ME. Same deal when I paddled back to get out. As I was leaving one redneck in his beat up pick up truck actually backed the truck down the ramp and left it there while he and the family went swimming.

I wish we had a more beefed up Conservation Corp to roust these people a bit. I'm all for full access to waterways, but if you can't play nice, your butt needs to get gone. This would apply to Linden and all others. I totally understand the people at Linden not wanting to deal with that crap on a regular basis. I can only imagine how messy it gets on and near the 4th of July with all the fireworks.

How many drinks over 32oz did you count?

Got a call from the prosecutor today. She wanted me to know she had told the sheriff that basically gravel bars were fair game for everyone to be on. Looks like they are abiding by it after reading a new report on the free linden website. Victory for the river goers, loss for the landowner that thinks he controls it all.
