so this post should correctly be titled, "My bad experience with a fake posing as someone from spro and my less than professional response from spro usa" buy spro products at your own disgression.

Then contact SPRO directly and notify them of this person and send them the e-mails. They may react very fast.

understandable, although he never clarified that he actually used a spro product to catch it, and other comments had already been made by other people about catch and release. I simply posted growth rates.

It's a closed group, so the admin can do or say whatever he wishes. It just unfortunate that Spro doesn't actually have their own fb page where they can put out their corporate message instead of some clown hijacking it.

I've yet to see a fish picture posted on fb or the internet, where the fish obviously was harvested, where multiple anglers didn't comment on C & R.

I am confused as to the entire issue here. It seems to me that SPRO is completely within their rights to censor you on their FB page. Your 1st amendment free speech rights only apply to state action- not SPRO action. You are also completely within your rights to threaten bad press- whats wrong with that? Bullying isn't illegal yet. And how would they legally act against you? Your'e right about libel- no damages- no libel. Plus truth wins. Anyway, I still don't get it. Although it shows Company Facebook pages are a powerful tool for informed consumers.

that's the thing jason, this facebook thing was a closed group, not an actual spro sanctioned/company page. I was wary about it anyway but since spro didn't have a fb page I figured maybe they sanctioned that one for their usa pro staff or something. and until now it really didn't matter and frankly I guess in the big picture it still doesn't.

You make a great point about social networking. So many companies are missing out on that it's not even funny.

I practice selective harvest. I release the VAST majority of the fish I catch. I am TOTAL catch and release for smallies because I love them and total catch and release for trout, stripers, and white bass because I don't think they taste good. I'm really too tender hearted for my own good when it comes to fish.

But having said all that, remember it's fish we're talking about. If people are acting within the limits of the law you really have no reason to be getting upset with them. I read the string of emails you exchanged with Spro. You seem to be the aggresser from the get go. If I fault Syd with anything, it's that he continued to respond to you. He should learn to use the delete button.

He clearly stated Spro's position in his first response. Spro is in business to sell baits; they're not in the business of trying to make you happy. Spro actually has pretty good customer service in support of their products. YOU don't like that they aren't taking a side on your catch and release drama.

I'm sure a lot of it is the fault of the medium, but you're coming across as a zealot.

actually the emails are backwards in order, read them bottom to top. And I'm really not trying to be a zealot, that's the messed up thing. It's not like every single photo that was posted on the group, I rushed to tout the benefits of C & R. two times total I have commented about c and r on that group. That's what set me off as there are plenty of other people who comment on photos. I just happened to provide some actual proof about growth rates. lesson learned about poseurs on social media pages. just because it says a products name, doesn't mean it's really associated with that product.

Stone, I like alot of what you say on this forum, but you do come across as a bit of an a hole in this exchange. I deal with this issue of c&r on occasion with my clients and it's a tricky subject when what they are doing is legal. I commented on a photo of a big brown on a stringer the other day from our river by saying that you can thank all the fisherman who had been releasing a bunch of 22" fish for his 24" fish. He replied saying they release most fish but keep a few if they think they might die anyway. I wasn't mean about my comment, but think I got my point across. Directly bitching at someone only makes them defensive and usually leads to nothing constructive.

I agree, I did come across as an A hole. It was intended in this exchange as I was peeved over the entire issue. Granted I could have worded it better, as email tends to leave much to be desired about interpersonal communication, and it's possible that adjustment would have gotten a better response. But in my defense, simply answering my inquiry when originally asked, would have alleviated much drama too.

As I've said, I really can't fault Spro as much as the title indicates.

It is easy to get worked up over internet communication, not very personal when you write something, but seems very personal when you receive. Takes a big man to see both sides of an issue, in this case both had reason to be upset and seems like you can understand that. I think most on this forum wish the biggest fish were all released, but what I tell myself when I see one kept is that chances are it was about at the end of it's life, and I'm not good enough to ever catch it anyway, and at least now I won't have to hear about it from one of my fishing buddies. Those big ones that are released make the record fish, and luckily there are alot of us out there that release trophy fish to hopefully grow to be a record someday.

Stone...I quit doing forums quite some time ago because of guys like you.......low and behold, I decide to check out a forum that is new to

me and what do I see....you're BS.

Life is way too short to be ranting about what the law legally permitted the guy to do.....keep the fish. You need to get a life.

I just wasted 15 minutes of my life reading all this crap......and what tee's me off even more is that I am 100 percent C&R.
