I enjoy threads like this, so i would ask all to be polite and respectful, to ensure that it stays here, to air views on the direction of the world we inhabit, thanks!

Just to kick in a response, the change in temperature sighted is a magnitude greater( or less, lol) than the accuracy of the records, I cant get that one out of my mind.

Thousands, tens of thousands actually. It took tens of thousands of years for that climate shift to occur.

We're talking about average global temperatures rising a full degree in a hundred years. The difference is significant.

I keep hearing people say they want to see more facts...but then they wouldn't believe them anyway...as if scientific data is up for debate. Some of you folks would deny the existence of gravity if Al Gore said it was real. Forget Al Gore...this is about science, and if you don't "believe" in science, you're just a clown and there's no point having a discussion with you. Insanity.

Man, I just can't take you seriously with that avatar.

That's okay. I could have a pic of a heart attack as an avatar and still wouldn't be taken seriously. I've earned it.

Wow.

The non believers (I'm one of them) don't for the most part deny there has been global warming or climate change (the preferred name now). What they WE (fixed that for ya...it's not healthy to refer to yourself in the 3rd person) deny is that man has played a substantial role in this climate change.

What they also argue is that the earth has experienced many climate shifts in the past, long before industrialzation took place. Many of the climate shifts were dramatic-our great lakes were created in the last ice age that lasted hudreds of years. And guess what, there were no factories back then, or cars.

I live in CO, at one time we were part of a massive inland tropical sea-no indutrial production, or cars, or cows back them either.

If the denial crowd is so darn accepting that the climate is changing why is so much effort aimed at undermining the validity of the data that shows warming? Why go for that argument at all if you accept the point? Why is that raised over and over again? You seem willing to speak for all deniers. Why do so many on your side of the argument attack what you say you accept?

And sure. The climate has changed before. That is no consolation at all to people in coastal areas who's homes are going to be underwater in 100 years. As many times as the climate has changed it has never changed with the welfare of human economies (and therefore humans) riding on its' back.

Also, this climate change is accompanied by increases in greenhouse gases we have never seen before. The planet is in territory it has never been in before.

And if you think Colorado is going to be unscathed, you're kidding yourself. 2nd fire on the Poudre is already underway this year. The first one is apparently going to cause silt problems. Biggest fire in New Mexico ever this year. Biggest ever in Arizona last year. The inter-mountain west is going to take a bigger hit than most.

Thumbs up to that one and Tim's posts too. At some point it just grows old with this, "quit insulting us, we're trying to have a discussion here" followed by "besides, you're just some guy on a fishing forum posting google articles of which you know nothing about."

Also, this climate change is accompanied by increases in greenhouse gases we have never seen before. The planet is in territory it has never been in before.

If I remember reading things correctly, there was at least one other time when greenhouse gas levels slightly exceeded the predictions for the upcoming couple hundred years. Of course that's not much consolation when it happened to be during what appears to be the single largest mass extinction on earth.

Guess I'll just speak for myself from now on, its easier that way.

One more time, I DO agree the planet is getting warmer, just haven't been convinced that man is a significant cause of

that warming, or even a minor cause.

And as far as CO and wildfires, I've been living here since the early '70's and we've had fires every year. Its actually a good thing for the forest and helps it regenerate itself. There are many forest rangers and biologists who argue that in many cases where human life is not at risk, the best policy may be to let them burn themselves out.

Now a better argument could be made for the increase in acres of beetle killed pine trees due to warm winters that don't kill off the beetles like they used to. Also, below normal snowpak and precipitation weaken the pine trees and make them more vulnerable to disease. The evidence of that is overwhelming and in the long run beetle killed pine trees are a FAR greater threat than areas lost to forest fires. Go to any national forest in CO, there are whole mountainsides with dead trees.
