Brian K. Shaffer Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 Tragic and very scary.. the thought of the train just flying off the tracks - for all passengers on cars aboard. Amazing the small number of deceased.... Just once I wish a trout would wink at me! ozarkflyfisher@gmail.com I'm the guy wearing the same Simms longbilled hat for 10 years now.
ness Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 I thought that too, Brian. 600 people on board -- that had to be packed. John
Wayne SW/MO Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 I believe there was an old riverboat exposed a few years ago not far from STL on the Missouri. Don't remember when. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
UnCivE Posted July 26, 2012 Author Posted July 26, 2012 http://glswrk-auction.com/102.htm Possibly the steamboat Arabia?
UnCivE Posted July 26, 2012 Author Posted July 26, 2012 Long story short, a steam boat discovered 45ft under a corn field next to the Missouri River, sunk in 1856.
Wayne SW/MO Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 This is the one I remembered. Turns out it was hard to find. http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2005-08-16-steamboat-emerges_x.htm Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Daryk Campbell Sr Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 WOW, it is amazing that they are allowed to still use the bridge, if it is in such need of replacement. Neat submission. Money is just ink and paper, worthless until it switches hands, and worthless again until the next transaction. (me) I am the master of my unspoken words, and the slave to those that should have remained unsaid. (unknown)
gramps50 Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 Good stuff, I have found a couple of barges in the Meramec down by STL. Amazing how much history of the rivers are reveled when the water is excpetionally low.
UnCivE Posted July 30, 2012 Author Posted July 30, 2012 Well guys, I drove up to Gasconade today to get a look at this thing. Pretty cool! First off, the bridge is new and heavily used. I probably caught 6 or 7 trains in the two hours I was there. I took this video so you can get a better look!
