Just wondering if anyone else noticed the Symbicort commercial showing people headed out for a day of fishing? I'm pretty sure the whiz bang advertising execs who dreamed up that commercial have no clue about fishing. Every person in the commercial is outfitted with a spinning rod and a fly reel, fly line outfit. LOL!!!

I have yet to see ANY TV commercial featuring fishing that gets it right. I've seen people holding spinning rods by the end of the handle, or holding the reel so that it's on top of the rod. Spinning reels on casting rods. Guys that have no clue how to cast a fly rod. Trout that have obviously come straight from the fresh fish section of the supermarket held up as being caught on a bass pond. I don't think anybody in TV advertising has ever gone fishing.

Yeah, when fly fishing became THE thing to do, it was always funny to see the lame casting, humongous flies, hats and vests on the models. They still trot that concept out in commercials about retiring well, travel, whatever.

Saw the same thing once with a guy that was obviously goose hunting with goose decoys but blowing a duck call. I'm sure no one at the round table knew the difference.

I saw the same commercial. I commented, to my wife, that they didn't have a clue what they were doing. Two handed 10+ wt fly rods on an obviously small stream? Then the old man, who is supposed to know all of the important stuff is showing his grandson a big old style red and white plastic bobber. Not a strike indicator that some call a bobber, an honest to goodness bobber. LOL.

This is not the first one I've seen either, and all are pushing drugs on our elderly. I'm waiting for VIAGRA to produce a fishing commercial with someone using an obviously over sized rod.

If fishing was easy it would be called catching.

Al you're normally so dead on with your post but in this case I hate to say it but I have seen all that in real life lmao. The RnD for these firms must come from the local lake shores on a saturday instead of the simple RnD of simply watching one hour of any cable fishing shows :)

True...but you'd think that the ad agencies would kinda like to cater to the knowledgeable and not the doofus fringe. Geez, there is such a thing as the internet, and a half hour using Google would get you enough accurate info to stage a good commercial (or show you the basics of actually using fishing equipment if you're heading to the local lake, for that matter).

Al, there you go using logic on people who obviously do not have much lol. Hey at least they didnt show guys using the a light weight spinner with a penn80 wide probing a hole in Oklahoma and then going in and grabbing a big ole flatty while screaming CHOOT UM.

The all time clincher was the Trout Unlimited calendar pics several years ago. How could THEY not get it right?

One month had a guy fishing with a rod rigged with the line missing two guides.

Another showed a guy standing midstream with one foot up on a rock......nice waders but no boots.

You'da thought that someone from TU would've caught that during the calendar layout.

I caught the Symbicort early. I happen to use it so it caught my attention. I've considered e-mailing them and point out that an ad like that insults my intelligence. I can handle small mistakes, but that ad is ridiculous.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
