Wayne SW/MO
I'm not sure how any legal transaction makes the individual bad or pertains to healthcare. Before anyone decides we would be better off with a Canadian style healthcare system Google information about their waiting lists and survival rates. .While you doing it don't forget their population is less than a third of ours. We're also talking about somewhere in the vicinity of 16% of the population and that is in a bad economy. I'm not sure what in the bill addresses affordable? Putting limitations on insurance companies, letting pharmaceuticals have a bye and not addressing litigation clearly smells of of a lawyer run congress protecting their cash cow and bringing down insurance companies to open the door for national healthcare. oneshot
I'm going to break one of my rules here... although you could argue this isn't politics. It's still a hot-bottom topic that may not last long. But I have a question to those who know about insurance. I don't see how an insurance co can stay in business when they're forced to allow for, not turn away people with pre existing sickness. Honestly, I don't know how any of this will work or is supposed to work in the future... have to buy insurance - fined if you don't - But right now you don't really need to buy it - just wait till you get sick and then buy it. When you're treated and it's paid for, drop the insurance till you're sick again. May be you won't be allowed to do that... I don't know. But forcing companies to take ppl who are already sick - sounds great but - nothing is free! If you don't now you will pay in the future somehow. Insurance companies have to make profits to pay off claims, pay employees, build up funds to that they're not put out of business when calamity happens. They'll get their monies somehow. I would think is would be by charging higher premiums. That means all of us pay - businesses, employees, self employed and I bet retirees too. Again, I am not up on this stuff... just asking common sense stuff. No emotion... Ok I have to agree but on Medicare I'm getting a Pre Existing Condition taken care of that I've had all my life. There is no way I could pay for care myself and like my Doctor said with out this care I would be dead,I still could drop over dead anyway any time just less likely. Considering I can no longer work with this Condition even though I did for years I could see how some could consider me worthless and just let die.But yea I'm glad this is not happening at this time. oneshot

Most hospitals have payment plans and cost are reduced considerably if someone does not have insurance and needs the care. Most of the inflated costs of medical care are the results of the hoards of people needed to file all of the needed paperwork and forms to get money from insurance companies. Jack Jones
Yeah, JD, it couldn't be the seven and eight figure salaries collected by the CEOs, and other execs of the insurance companies, hospitals, etc..... Wayne SW/MO
If Obamacare cuts 500 billion from Medicare and improves it, it will be the first time in history that the government cut funds and improved a program at the same time. Justin Spencer
Just paid my family's healthcare bill for the year and after getting the $400 refund I am only paying $100 more this year than last. Several years ago it rose by $1000. Not saying Obamacare is working for everyone but sure seems to be working for me! hank franklin
I paid $2,700 in health care premiums for my three kids. We did not go to the doctor once. We got sports physicals from Walgreens at $39 per, because even at $2700 annually a physical is not covered (is subject to the deductible). I would much rather pay $1,000 to the state for a Romneycare-like plan than pay $2700 to Anthem. My $2700 Anthem plan is a high-deductible plan, meaning I have to pay $1500 per kid or $3000 total before the health insurance actually pays. Note that I said I would rather pay for Romneycare, not Obamacare. Obamacare is Romneycare on steroids and a federal takeover. Romneycare provides a state option to the private market. Everyone freaks out and screams "no new taxes" when it comes to health reform. But you have to pay to play, which is a very conservative position. I am out in the neighborhood of $2700 per year under the current system. This is insane. It's almost enough for me to say screw it and go uninsured.
