Feathers and Fins Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 Just my opinion but I believe record fish should not be allowed from private ponds or parks, though they may well be a record I liken it to High Fence Hunting which is not allowed to be in record books. The animal may have been reared in captivity but should have been released into a “wild” place to live and attain the record size. I believe it lessens records to allow brood stock to be allowed from places that can grow monsters due to farming technology. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Quillback Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 When I lived in Washington state, the record "Rainbow" was caught. It was a triploid that had escaped from a fish farm net pen. Should not have qualified IMO, but it is what it is. http://wdfw.wa.gov/news/mar1998a/
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted August 1, 2012 Root Admin Posted August 1, 2012 I don't think MDC has released any broad stock rainbows in Taneycomo for a lot of years now. They take them to the parks mainly. If you caught one, you'd know it. Nothing like a "normal" trout - no fight, no fins, color is terrible. They can develop into a nice fish but it would take years. When they were put in Taneycomo, they didn't last long at all. Caught out and kept by most as trophies. The last time I saw broad stock rainbows come out of Taney, they were only about 3-4 pounds. Not the 7-8 pounders we used to see back in the 80's and 90's.
Bman Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 After reading about Phil,s big catch, and recalling the story about the 17.5 lber caught just a few months ago. I am thinking that taney is on the verge of producing the next 18 lb rainbow. Last fall I witnessed the most large rainbows caught in several years. It reminded me of the 1988 season when 10 to 14 lbers were caught on a daily basis. Last fall, at least 6 fish were caught ranging from 12.5 to 15.5 . These six fish are the ones caught by Bman, Centerpunch, Brandon, Elke, and myself. And these are only the fish that I am aware of, I am sure others were caught from the main lake. When you look at this overall pattern, I am guessing that this might be the year for the state record to " rightfully" come to lake taneycomo. I am going out on the limb and saying that by new license time next year, taney will produce a record rainbow. It may come in the way of an unofficial record from phil or some of the c and r people on this board, but I thinki it will happen. Hey Rick, I believe you are right! That male 'Bow I released last fall was hanging out with a huge female, I belive she went at least 20. I had her on for a few quick seconds. I hope our paths cross on the water soon. The only good line is a tight line
Members LunkerB Posted August 17, 2012 Members Posted August 17, 2012 The trend of such beautiful, big fish being caught and also released is exciting. It makes me want to pack the truck and head out!

I remember you telling the story about that big female, and remember Matt saw one the year before. It is time for taney to hold both records.
ohmz138 Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 Hopefully we can see some fish like that this year. That one I about hooked a couple years ago looked to be about 4 or 5 inches wide when looking down at it. That bad dude chased that streamer all the way to my feet pretty much before it took. I think I was having a seizure about that time, so I forgot how to set a hook I guess.lol.

I know that I will never forget the look on your face that early foggy morning! The only good line is a tight line
