Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted August 9, 2012 Root Admin Posted August 9, 2012 Camdenton, Mo. — “What on earth – it’s a stupid walleye”, my bass tournament partner exclaimed, reeling in his fish, “and it bit a spinnerbait!” This incident happened during a tournament 36 years ago on Lake Shelbyville in central Illinois. It seemed an inconsequential accident at the time. However, walleye were native to the Kaskaskia River system so encounters like this occurred in both the river and the lake. The unusual part was how hard the fish attacked a spinnerbait with chrome-colored Colorado blades. http://www.lakenewsonline.com/newsnow/x1437143393/Walleye-on-spinnerbaits-you-re-kidding
Members Jim Fish the Zarks Posted August 10, 2012 Members Posted August 10, 2012 I've caught them on cranks, but never a spinner. Except I have a hard time getting upset with any wally!
Al Agnew Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 I've caught several on my homemade twin spin, which I'm almost never fishing more than a couple of feet under the surface. Caught one about six pounds on lower Black River on it.
Flysmallie Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 I've caught several over the years on Stockton with a spinnerbait. They seem to like them.
dennis boatman Posted August 13, 2012 Posted August 13, 2012 ...I take off the skirt and put a nightcrawler on spinnerbaits for Walleye on Stockton...works great... A strike indicator is just a bobber...
Ham Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 I've caught them on BSL that way. Knocked the snot out of it. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
exiledguide Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 Caught them every once in a while up in NW Ontario on Strike King single spin spinnerbaits back in the 80's looking for Smallmouth.
Clayton Will Posted December 16, 2012 Posted December 16, 2012 Walleyes in certain conditions love spinnerbaits. It would be interesting to know if you had a mud line you were fishing. Here is the condition I described we ran into in Canada.
rps Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 I have caught them on twin spins, too, Al. A spinnerbait trolled slowly on leadcore has been a hot technique in timber for over a year now on the tournamrent trail. I have yet to make it work, but last year was an odd year for "suspending" fish.
jbtiwns30 Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 its not unusual at all, I catch my limit on fellows lake with a white spinner. What I do is take off the skirt and put a worm on it. They hit it real hard!
