Mitch f Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 Definatly ! that whole "I pack heat everywhere I go" mentality is a bigtime type D personality thinking error. IMO of course. I'm always packin a fishing rod wherever I go, that's a thinking disorder too! just ask my wife. "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Feathers and Fins Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 To this day there has probably been more CCW shooting accidents (citizens injured or possibly killed) than there has been "lives saved" by CCW carriers. I haven't actually researched the statistics but I bet that is an accurate guess. I was staying out of it but you Might want to check that before guessing. FL maintains one of the best statistic data bases for this and here is theres Number of Licenses Issued (since 10/01/87): 1,290,110 Crimes by CCW holder w/ firearm used (since 10/01/87): 164 or 0.012% Innocent bystanders shot: 0 There are other stats out there is you want to look them up. Also stats show CCW holders less likely to commit a crime than non-ccw holders Texas has those facts pretty well documented. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
fishinwrench Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 Well there has been at least 3 shooting incidents in the last 10 months here in Mo. that have been in the news. Remember? ( two of them were in church and one was either in a elevator or on a staircase somewhere. So how'd those escape the tally?
Members rayfromcrane Posted August 26, 2012 Members Posted August 26, 2012 fishinwrench I did not here about them where? Some cops shoot only when they are required to, they think an ink pen is all they will ever need to know how to use. Some are at the range all the time , shoot your ears off. Buget cuts have hurt others.I will do the best to take care me an mine cop 3 to 30 minute away - 357 1300 ft per sec. I will say this train train train. stay safe rfc
lee G. Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 Am I clear on this wrench, these cases are where CCW carriers shot innocent bystanders?
fishinwrench Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 Technically, yeah. I think in all 3 incidenta a CCW carrier mishandled his/her "weapon", and somehow it was concidered a no-fault accident. This I am assuming because no charges were filed. My point (regardless) is.... Nobody has been saved recently, if ever. Yet several have been harmed. So you supposedly carry to protect yourself, but increase the risk of harm to innocent folks nearby in doing so? Regardless of how awesome you are, if you carry 24/7/365 then the odds that you'll slip up in some way are increasing as time goes on. The first month that I owned a high dollar smart phone I never dropped it or misplaced it...... but now that carrying it has become routine (even during long periods of not needing it) I find that it gets dropped and abused more frequently. It's just human nature for y'all to eventually treat your "weapons" like you treat your cell phones. You carry it day after day, every day and tou expect me to believe that you will never ever become pre-occupied with anything else and take your focus away from that loaded firearm? Horse S#!t !
lee G. Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 Ok, i wondered if that might be what happened, instead of planed shot fired. AS to the rest of your post, I dont think my comments would would be of interest to anyone, so thanks for added info on those cases. Come to think of it, a few weeks a CCW shot himself at a theater in Co. Was in the news feed somewhere.
fishinwrench Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 And another thing ; Everyone is just assuming that there were no CCW folks in the theater when the Joker surfaced. Odds are there was a dozen+ of them in there within range of the freak, so why was there no savior heros? Yeah yeah, I know.... "If YOU had been there ....." Pffft ! Ok, i wondered if that might be what happened, instead of planed shot fired. Well sure, I mean hopefully a CCW permitted and armed citizen doesn't PURPOSELY shoot an innocent bystander. So now there's an "Ooops" clause, right?
KCRIVERRAT Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 None of us are Empire State Building Security is my guess and... uh... they failed big time as far as that fiasco went. Me and my wife and another couple floated the Big Piney years ago and came across a bunch of flaming gays playing with a blown up ball. All of them wearing speedo's and screaming like little girls. I'd rather pass a meth head camp... maybe if I wore speedo's they'd leave me alone. HUMAN RELATIONS MANAGER @ OZARK FISHING EXPEDITIONS
