Haris122 Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 Yet the average Walmart Pharmacy can't tell the difference between them and someone suffering from a cold or allergies........ To be fair, don't they generally pay normal-looking people to purchase the ingredients for them instead? Honestly not too sure if I've seen any real meth addicts myself but that's how it often goes down on cop shows, and in the news.

I have seen them in line while waiting to buy my used to be "on the shelf" Sudafed that I take daily for allergies. One tell tale sign is the rotten missing front teeth. Sores on their lips where they burn them on the pipes, Twitchy, nervous behaviour, can't stand or sit still. UnCivE Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 Yeah, if you see a thirty year old with a handful of teeth left... there's not much that does that kind of damage around here besides meth. I've had two labs busted here in the last 5 years less than 2 blocks from my house. . . it makes me want to move before my daughter gets old enough to go to school, but move where? Seems like it's everywhere.

drs7558 Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 Yes. I'm retired law enforcement, and I'm strapped just about everywhere I go. Even the supermarket. There are lots of BAD people out there, and your liable to run into them at any time. On the river, on the lake, in the woods. Be prepared. I could tell you lots of personel stories, but I won't. I carry a Kimber .45cal. And there is always the Chief Special in the truck. Anyone who thinks "it couldn't happen to me", is a fool. Its not a matter of seeing a bad guy behind every tree. But believe me there out there. I'd rather be prepared if the situation gets out of hand. It happens every day, all over the Country. Be prepared to protect yourself and your loved ones. This might sound very bold but I'll say it anyway,,,,If I had been in that theater in Colorado, I don't think that crazy bastard could have shot so many people.

I would think being a cop...or even a retired cop...that puts you in a different risk category. Most other people don't live in that zip code and hats off to you for your service and the risk that you have borne for our sakes. But so far, the supermarket looks pretty safe to me. And good luck getting past all the kevlar on old what's his name. That would have been impressive finding an open spot there in a dark theatre, but your odds would have been pretty long.
Al Agnew Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 If I had to be in questionable places, after dark, alone, I'd for sure be carrying. If I simply worked (or lived) in questionable places, I'd certainly be considering it. But although I know that there's always a chance of running into bad people anywhere, the chances of it in my situation are pretty slim. And a lot of places where I might run into some nut or criminal, like the theater where the latest atrocity took place, are places where there are a lot of other people who would be in MY line of fire as well as the crazy's. I just heard on the news this morning about a shooting where several people were wounded...by the police shooting at the perp. If cops can make that kind of mistake, then I sure as heck could. Life can never be perfectly safe. There are a lot of ways you can be killed or hurt, many of them due to the actions of others. Your chances of being killed by a drunk driver are greater than your chances of being shot by a criminal. Your chances of being shot by somebody trying to shoot a criminal are probably pretty close to the same as your chances of being shot by the criminal...if there IS somebody carrying in a crowded place. It's a part of living. The best you can do is be aware and be prepared. Carrying might be a part of being prepared, but it's not a panacea. Now...if the criminal decides to invade my home in the night, the 12 gauge is always within easy reach.

Definatly ! To this day there has probably been more CCW shooting accidents (citizens injured or possibly killed) than there has been "lives saved" by CCW carriers. I haven't actually researched the statistics but I bet that is an accurate guess. I don't care if you are ex-cop/ex-military or ex-wtfever.....that whole "I pack heat everywhere I go" mentality is a bigtime type D personality thinking error. IMO of course.
