When Fishing/hiking, Do You Carry A Handgun?

A couple of thoughts come to mind.

My truck once got egged at the take out. Sure wish I would have been packing so I could have evened the score.

Unless you guys are fishing one handed and holding your piece in the other, I figure the chances of getting the first and maybe even second, third and possibly fourth shot off are pretty slim.

Who's gonna blame me for wrecking this thread?

Well I have avoided this thread until Brian Jones brought up the very issue that concerns me. Night fishing as I do makes me quite concerned entering the parking lot at 1 or 2 oclock in the morning. I could care less about the bears and cougars that roam the shores of lake taneycomo. Over the recent few years some late night drinkers and some fruit bearing individuals have been using the lighted pavilion as their party spot. I witness this about 2 to 3 times over the course of the summer season and mostly on week nights. I quite often nap in my vehicle, and one night I am woke up by a somewhat drunk individual attempting to open my car door. Now, by accident, I don't know. My yelling a few curse slogans at him helped in his departure. Entering the parking lot and encountering some type of a crime is what concerns me the most. I carry a loaded snake charmer in the vehicle and I am considering a sidearm while fishing.

I've had a few unsettling situations in the past, but I've never had anyone actually try to screw with me or my family. I am not going to shoot somebody robbing my truck, I'm not going to shoot somebody vandalizing my property. . . I would shoot somebody entering my home, but I've got that covered at home... the likelihood that I'll pull a firearm in anger out by myself somewhere is far greater than I figure the likelihood that somebody will try to kill me. I can't afford to take that risk.

Now, I'm not saying anything for anybody but myself... I will say that I know people with tons of firearms training and experience that shouldn't be allowed to own a .22 in my opinion. To each his own.

Yea, that is justified reasoning for packing a weapon.

If you hear an Indian pulling back on a creaky ole bow the CCW might have the upper hand. Or he could just duck......

du du du ,du du, du du du du.

Don't carry but its been on my mind lately. There are some strange people out there and now that I'm older I'm less

confident of how I would do if there were a physical confrontation.

Several years ago on cc I was not carrying on private p. ran into 3 men, one had a agun not too bright. Told them they were trespassing plus using bait in bait free water. Then I turned and left I was afrid of what he would do. Owner told me he found them on his land later. I have carried ever sense. I have also been told by p officer to carry because of where I roam on public p. because of drugs. Ran into people selling drugs. I have not had any trouble yet but I do think 357 on hip might help. rfc

Yep, that is why I am packing all of the time....
