Bird Watcher Posted August 27, 2012 Posted August 27, 2012 Hopefully optimistic. We are now right in the center of the models. They change every day though.
Feathers and Fins Posted August 27, 2012 Posted August 27, 2012 The heaviest rain is NE of these storms, if it continues to shift westerly like it has been then there is a good chance we will get a fair amount of rain. Last reports I heard were 12 to 16 in LA and 2 to 4 by the time it got here. Drought buster I doubt as dry as the land is and as fast as its moving as it will run off more than soak in. We need a storm that parks over us a few days with light constant rain to soak in to the land. I think it will cause some flash flooding in the areas and raise lake levels a couple feet from run off. I have been seeing more and more tree damage to houses the last few weeks the arbourist are attributing to drought killing tree's/ tree branchs when high winds happen, the other thing is moles undermining trees. Never thought of Moles causing or attributing to it but one arbourist i spoke to said he has seen more and more of them around tree bases trying to dig in moiste soil undermining the root balls and when rain happens causing trees to lean more which can lead to them falling. My hope would be it last 3 to 4 days of nice light rain but from past experiance these things like to dump alot in a short amount of time. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856

I witnessed no less than 4 major tree falls or major limbs falling Yesterday afternoon. It was really weird. I attributed it to dead wood getting waterlogged from the rain. I'd take anything we can get on the rain. I didn't think the rain last weekend would amount to much run off, but it did-a little. The tributary I was fishing started rising about 3 or 4 pm Yesterday afternoon. not a lot, but the current picked up and the level came up a few inches.
stlfisher Posted August 27, 2012 Posted August 27, 2012 I would say it is likely that a good portion of the area...especially the eastern half of the state will receive some substantial and beneficial rainfall over the weekend. On thing to watch is the stronger the storm the more north and east it will go....the weaker it is the more the "death ridge" will push it west. A track through eastern Arkansas and Oklahoma before it startes to curve north east would get all of Arksansas and Missouri a nice good soaking....Maybe too much in Arkansas and points south.
Wayne SW/MO Posted August 27, 2012 Posted August 27, 2012 We can hope it keeps sliding west. Ike came in around Beaumont or Galveston, I believe, and we got winds and rain out of it in spades. We could use a drenching, but I know it won't soak in like a long term rain. Every little bit helps I suppose. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Guest Posted August 27, 2012 Posted August 27, 2012 It appears the current swath of rainfall is most likley east of our region. The bootheel of Missouri wil get plenty of rain. NWA may only get drizzle, but thats good too.
Guest Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 It appears the storm will track further west thru central Ark and Mo. Hopefully bringing much needed relief from the 2012 apacolypse drought.
Wayne SW/MO Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 The models now have the storm coming through western MO or eastern OK. They've been sliding west since yesterday and I hope they stay over here. The farmers are really hurting. We've gotten enough rain to keep the trees alive, but the pastures are dry. Greasy B Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 Could this be like the perfect storm we had on Labor Day weekend about 10 years ago. It started to rain when my brother and I shoved off on a 3 day float. It was still raining when we took out. We just managed to keep our equipment dry, at times it rained so hard we used an empty cooler to bail the John boat. The Gasconade came up about a foot and a half but remained clear. We had the best 3 days of Smallmouth fishing of our lives. And as a topper the rain scared all the other river users away. The perfect storm. His father touches the Claw in spite of Kevin's warnings and breaks two legs just as a thunderstorm tears the house apart. Kevin runs away with the Claw. He becomes captain of the Greasy Bastard, a small ship carrying rubber goods between England and Burma. Michael Palin, Terry Jones, 1974
junkman Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 The latest computer model shows it going right over my house. That sounds real real good.
