I was wondering if there are any good streams for fly fishing for trout. The little research I have done dosnt show me much except for lake trout and the driftless region. The driftless seems just fine but if its the only real streams to fish I'm afraid that won't satisfy my appetite. If anyone has some info let me have it. My fiance and I have moved quite a bit so this time we have a a wish list we want to check off when it comes to settling down.

Rochester actually, due to my fiance being a nurse the mayo clinic would he her calling.

After further reading on the Root, Rush and White Water I am a little more at ease. I havnt been able to dig up much on the upper Miss yet. Seems like it might be a little bigger stream that would require floating but I may be wrong. I'm kinda excited to venture new waters.

Heck with trout.plenty of that nearby...but Rochester MN...is really close to the upper Missippi...great smallmouth fishery. You will want a boat...small jon, big canoe, or a drifter. Have fun.

Your finance must be a great nurse. Mayo only calls on the best folks to come and work for them.

Rochester is where I lived for 30 years before moving here 7 years ago. Not close to the Upper Mississippi, but it is close to the trout areas I linked to above. Roch is a great place to live. Great parks and bike trail systems. Very good roads, nice people, well run city. Plus the health care cannot be beat. Of course, the winters suck. Ski areas are close by (Welch Village) to help pass the winter.

PM me if you want to chat more in depth about it. I really like Rochester, and would still live there if it were not for the winters the upper midwest gets.

I think there's like 10,000 lakes in Minnesota. :D

I think that's why the fishing in the rivers is so good.

Unfortunately, there are not many lakes in the Rochester area. Zero natural ones. Lake Zumbro is the closest. Also known as Rochester's settling pond. We usually ran down to "The River" (Mississippi), about 50 minutes away. Most of the lakes in MN (close to 15,000 of them) are from the Twin Cities on up.
