Sorry laker67, I was trying to be sarcastic in stating that the browns will be gone the 25th thru 29th. That way the stream would be less crowded for the time period we are going to be there.

Good to put a man to a name. On the rapalas, yeah I usually hook a couple good ones every fall. I've only landed 2 over the past few years that were big. A 28"er and another one I didnt get a tape on, but had to go close to 30". I've missed quite a few big ones too! Keeps me coming back. Last Fri the one I had on by outlet 2 was prob about a 25" fish or so. It ran my drag out with 6lb line but I got a good look at its head as it shook my lure free. Caught 2 later on that were pushing 20" down by 1. When the waters running 2 units, I usually do pretty good throwing rapalas.

Belly flops? Chasing emerging insects, maybe caddis?

Not chasing anything- not even feeding. I've heard may be it's females loosening their eggs but I've seen males jump too. May be it's a spawning thing...

I always thought it was a cleaning out of the gills into a new fresher-freshwater thing.

I once read somewhere that the jumping was thought to be a navagational thing, but I find that hard to believe. I am more inclined to think like Phil and Brian. It definately has something to do with pre spawn, and I see alot of this activity at night.
