laker67 Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 Sorry laker67, I was trying to be sarcastic in stating that the browns will be gone the 25th thru 29th. That way the stream would be less crowded for the time period we are going to be there. Went right by me. lol
Members jefly77 Posted October 2, 2012 Members Posted October 2, 2012 Laker Good to put a man to a name. On the rapalas, yeah I usually hook a couple good ones every fall. I've only landed 2 over the past few years that were big. A 28"er and another one I didnt get a tape on, but had to go close to 30". I've missed quite a few big ones too! Keeps me coming back. Last Fri the one I had on by outlet 2 was prob about a 25" fish or so. It ran my drag out with 6lb line but I got a good look at its head as it shook my lure free. Caught 2 later on that were pushing 20" down by 1. When the waters running 2 units, I usually do pretty good throwing rapalas.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted October 3, 2012 Root Admin Posted October 3, 2012 Belly flops? Chasing emerging insects, maybe caddis? Not chasing anything- not even feeding. I've heard may be it's females loosening their eggs but I've seen males jump too. May be it's a spawning thing...
Brian K. Shaffer Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 I always thought it was a cleaning out of the gills into a new fresher-freshwater thing. (coming from yuckie water into new might make them do it) http://www.landbigfi...ault.cfm?ID=566 BETTER link - https://www.google.c...iw=1152&bih=760 Just once I wish a trout would wink at me! ozarkflyfisher@gmail.com I'm the guy wearing the same Simms longbilled hat for 10 years now.
laker67 Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 I once read somewhere that the jumping was thought to be a navagational thing, but I find that hard to believe. I am more inclined to think like Phil and Brian. It definately has something to do with pre spawn, and I see alot of this activity at night.
laker67 Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 Another train of thought is that it might be used to attract the opposite sex.
Don Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 Another train of thought is that it might be used to attract the opposite sex. That's what happens when I do a belly flop! Don May I caught you a delicious bass.

ruthead Posted October 4, 2012 Author Posted October 4, 2012 Sometime things just happen. Doesn't make my head hurt as much to accept this explanation. OR I may try it myself and see if my results are the same as Don's!! "Pretty soon we may not have any rights left because it might infringe on someone's rights"
Dylan Cluver Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 Saw a 10+lber in the top of the ladder last night No one gripes about obese fish.
