Gavin Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 Find a trout hatchery, you will find eagles in the winter. Lots on the Niangua , plenty at Meramec Springs, lots on the upper Current in the winter time. Plenty of them along the river road between Alton & Pere Marquette. The the guy from the bird sanctuary did a report from Grafton this AM. Some eagles have moved in, but the main push wont start till they get a hard freeze up in Minnesota.
mic Posted October 31, 2012 Author Posted October 31, 2012 I found this cool pamphlet, and thought I would share. Mo Bald Eagle Pamplet.pdf
REDSOXWSCHAMP Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 If you do enjoy a good winter hike with the chance to see eagles like you never have before, i recommend THE GOAT TRAIL in arkansas. It is a FULL day hike, but well worth it. I have seen several bald eagles at eye level on that trail. If you are scared of heights, this trail is not for you!
Quillback Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 There's always some at Swepco (Flint Creek reservoir) outside of Gentry AR in the winter. They've got a short trail built over the wetlands that leads to a viewing platform which was specifically built for viewing eagles. There haven't been as many the last few years at that lake, used to be 50-100 hanging around, but now it's maybe 20 or so at peak. Lake Fort Smith might be a good place to try, there's a trail that encircles the lake, never been there in the winter, but there has to be a few eagles there, seems any place there's water here in NW AR there's going to be eagles, at least in the winter.
ollie Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 Bird Watcher is right about the Wheaton area, but that's because the farmers are putting out the chicken manure which is loaded with tidbits and pieces of the bird. I have witnessed over 50 in a field and there were probably more that we just couldn't count. Eagle Days are in the town of Stella which isn't far from Wheaton. I know of a couple other spots, but if I tried to explain to you where they were you would be lost! lol I would think the best bet for you would be down around Grafton. Those higher bluffs over the river would be perfect for them. Quillback Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 The magnificent eagle sifting through chicken crap for chicken parts, I know they can be scavengers, but good grief..
REDSOXWSCHAMP Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 who wants to watch eagles eat chicken crap? go down to arkansas see some eagles and maybe some elk while you are there
ollie Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 Didn't say I would want to see them there on purpose, but when you drive by you just can't help but stop and watch!
