Ive been thinking about a newer/bigger motor for my 2000 Lund.. The boat itself is fine & suits my needs perfectly-except for the small 2000 135 Optimax. The boat is rated for a 175.. Id like to have a NEW bigger motor BEFORE I retire in 2yrs. .. Here is where my thought patterns are heading...

Should I trade in/sell JUST the motor & get the new 175, or just trade in or sell the entire boat motor & trailer & buy a new complete rig.

I am thinking that it maybe cheaper getting an entire package.. I dont know.. Opinions anyone ?

it is a 13 yr old rig. Crap will start happening, even if you maintained it. IMHO, get a new rig with what you want and enjoy retirement.

What are your reasons for a bigger motor??

We had that same dilema last week on the 11PT River. Tore a hole in a 1984 Bass Tracker Panfish Special the size of my fist. But it has a newer 2008 Mercury Jet on it that was purchased a few weeks ago. I really wanted to leave it on the bottom of one of the holes, but it has a new motor on it.

The 135 opti is gonna be hard to sell, it's basically a pontoon pusher so you'll be practically giving it away on a straight power upgrade. If it's all about money then yeah you'll come out better selling it and then buying a new(er) rig.

I wouldn't advise anyone to buy a NEW boat, cuz there are way too many good used ones out there.....but if you have the coin and don't forsee any money shortages in your future they why not, you only live once. :)
