drew03cmc Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 Has anyone used the Loomis CR721 IMX for throwing weightless plastics? If so, how did you like it and if not, do you have any other suggestions? Andy
Quillback Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 What sized weightless plastics are you planning on tossing? Just asking, because some, for example Senkos, are relatively heavy. Are you looking at just a 6' rod? Dobyns rods makes several light action casting rods, but they are 7' minimum. You might want to check out the Dobyns Extreme 701DX and 702DX. If you shop the online Black Friday sales those rods will fall into about the price range of that IMX.
drew03cmc Posted November 4, 2012 Author Posted November 4, 2012 I hadn't thought of that QB, Dobyns is on my radar, but also, the BPS CarbonLite is available in a ML power rod, 1/16-1/2oz lures and is available in a combo with a Curado for $240. If I went Dobyns, it would have to be the DX702, just for the lure rating. For lures, I am thinking weightless 4 and 5" Senkos Texas Rigged along with the occasional fluke. Andy
fishinwrench Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 Anything Med. action (standard worm rod) that you'd normally rig with 12-15lb. line is what I like. Gotta remember that regardless of how heavy the bag of salt is you still have to be able to drive that hook into his face. St. Croix AVC66MF or AVC60MF
drew03cmc Posted November 5, 2012 Author Posted November 5, 2012 Senko-type baits are heavier than I thought. My 6' M power casting rod chucked one a good, long distance this morning. I guess I don't need a different rod, just more rods. Andy
Flysmallie Posted November 5, 2012 Posted November 5, 2012 Has anyone used the Loomis CR721 IMX for throwing weightless plastics? If so, how did you like it and if not, do you have any other suggestions? I have a CR722 IMX that is the best casting floating worm rod I have ever used. A floating worm is going to be a little lighter than a senko though. I love this rod.
drew03cmc Posted November 5, 2012 Author Posted November 5, 2012 I have a hard time justifying the cost Ronnie, but that rod has been the top one on my radar. Andy
Flysmallie Posted November 5, 2012 Posted November 5, 2012 I agree, it's a costly rod. Heck I wouldn't own one if I hadn't stole this one out of dads garage.
Flysmallie Posted November 5, 2012 Posted November 5, 2012 If you get down this way let me know and I'll let you toss it around to see what you think.
exiledguide Posted November 5, 2012 Posted November 5, 2012 Drew I have to agree with Fishinwrench I,ve been throwing Senkos for a long time and just use my worm rod an old 61/2 foot Quantum made in the USA medium heavy graphite casting rod and 6 foot medium Quantum made in America spinning rod for throwing a Senko wacky style. I actualy don't use Senkos anymore I use the chompers at least for the last 5 years they catch me more fish.
