Quillback Posted November 12, 2012 Posted November 12, 2012 I've got a TFO 665, good value rod, I don't fish it much as I've become a fan of longer rods, and it's not the most sensitive rod for bottom dragging t-rigs or c-rigs. But for pitching jigs it works fine. Drew if you lived closer I'd be happy to let you borrow it for a test drive as it just sits on my rack unused right now.
Members soxpac Posted November 13, 2012 Members Posted November 13, 2012 I messed with a TFO rod this weekend and as I agree to the stiffness, they did seem like great rods for the price. The gods do not deduct from man's allotted span the hours spent in fishing. ~Babylonian Proverb
drew03cmc Posted November 14, 2012 Author Posted November 14, 2012 No thank you. TFO can go to hell. Their rods are made overseas and if I am spending over $70 on a rod, it darn well better be made here, by Americans, making an American wage. I think an Ardent reel is next on my list, made in the USA and all. Andy
Blazerman Posted November 14, 2012 Posted November 14, 2012 When somebody posted about this Reeds Sports having the buy 1 get 1 free deal on these rods I bought the two listed below. Absolutely love them. I used the 6’6” medium to throw the LC slender pointer that caught my big smallmouth on Saturday. This rod is perfect for throwing these. tjulianc Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 My suggestion with fishing weightless plastics, like senkos and flukes, is to use a spinning rod. The reason is, I have gotten several bad backlashes with senko type lures when making a cast and the worm flies off the hook-esp after catching a few fish and the worm starts to tear or fishing it wacky. Plus there are a few other advantages with fishing a senko with a spinning rod/reel like letting it fall vertically by keeping the bail open and the ability to make quick flip or skip casts in a sitting position, like in a canoe. And I'm the type of fisherman that will use a baitcaster over a spinning reel any time I can get away with it. That said, I've been very happy with every Falcon I've owned. Haven't tried the Bucoo, but love the originals, lowriders, and caras. Another brand I've become fond of is Castaways. I got an XP3 worm rod that is 6'6" med, and has become my go to finesse jig rod. Don't know where their blanks are made, but I'm pretty sure they do all the finishing/wrapping down in Texas- maybe the blanks too, just don't know. Maybe the exception would be their lowest cost rod, which is also the case for Falcon, as the Falcon HDs are made in China. I think that kind of cheapens the brand, but when you are competing with the Pure Fishing brands like Berkley and Abu Garcia can't really blame them. And don't forget, Shimano owns G.Loomis. They might be American made, don't really know, but they aren't American owned.
Mitch f Posted November 17, 2012 Posted November 17, 2012 I wouldn't go with an Ardent reel, I've got a Denny Brauer flipping and Pitching reel, POS. No more twinkies folks "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor

We should NOT support American workers by buying American-made goods, right? Andy
Greasy B Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Isolationism vs global trade, hasn't history decided this question? His father touches the Claw in spite of Kevin's warnings and breaks two legs just as a thunderstorm tears the house apart. Kevin runs away with the Claw. He becomes captain of the Greasy Bastard, a small ship carrying rubber goods between England and Burma. Michael Palin, Terry Jones, 1974
Blazerman Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Drew, you can buy all the American made products you like but are you sure they are American made? Almost anything you buy anymore has parts that are manufactured all over the world. Cars, trucks, boats, rods, reels, appliances, any kind of electronic device. Pretty much anything with more than 10 parts. They can say they are made in America but what they should really say is assembled in America with parts made all over the world. This is not a bad thing. Like I said we live in a Global economy now.
