Justin Spencer Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 . And as bad as its been, you couldn't even call Missouri one of the worst teams in the SEC this year, not with Auburn, Kentucky, and Tennessee all still fighting for a conference win headed into the last week. What? They beat Tenn. is several overtimes, and the Kentucky win was contested until the second half, so their two wins were over winless teams, and only one of those was somewhat convincing. Beating Tennessee at home was a good win even though Tenn. is bad, but to say they weren't one of the worst teams in the SEC is just dreaming. I don't think they have the worst talent, but just couldn't put it together this year. They lost to Syracuse at home for goodness sake. Afraid they would have been one of the worst in the Big 12 this year. I'm a Mizzou fan and a Chiefs fan, and this year both teams suck, facts is facts, you can put lipstick on it all you want but in the end the scoreboard is the only thing that matters. That being said, they should be a much better team next year. ness Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 I was just doing some cyphering, and it turns out if the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th quarters of all the Chiefs games this season didn't count, we'd still suck. John
stlfisher Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 Not a good year for football in the midwest MU stinks, KU stinks, Arkansas stinks, Chief's stink, Rams stink. That's a hole lotta stink for one region.
Al Agnew Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 Point I wanted to make is, they had enough talent to win, but injuries and mistakes, both by players and by coaches, doomed the season. All you have to do is look at A&M and you'll see that the talent level doesn't have to be head and shoulders above what it was in the Big 12. Mizzou owned A&M in the Big 12. Yes, they need to recruit better, and for the most part they'll be losing the Texas pipeline, so they have to go into the SEC states and steal some jewels, as well as keeping a good portion of the Missouri kids at home. It won't be easy, but I think it's doable. What I'm concerned about is the poor game day coaching.
Chief Grey Bear Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 LOL........if football was only 3 quarters Mizzou would be killer????? There would be a ton of good great major league baseball teams if they didn't have to pitch the 9th inning. You mizzed the whole point. And while I have you, you backing out of selling the canoe??? Quillback Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 You guys are killin' me.. If only we get some good recruits, if only we get some good play calling, if only we could play well for all 4 quarters, if only the teams we play stink... If only all the stuff comes together next year, we MIGHT get into a mid-level bowl. But I like your prospects for next year better than the Hawgs.
Justin Spencer Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 This could potentially hurt and start a bad trend (see article). Tough when you invite recruits to what should be a win and they see a crushing loss and loss of a good bowl chance. Now it looks like the kid might prefer the Big 12 or Big 10 over the SEC, and he's a Mizzouri boy, this was why we moved to the SEC, but no one wants to be on a crappy team regardless of what league they are in. http://www.kansascit...er-ramirez.html "The problem with a politician’s quote on Facebook is you don’t know whether or not they really said it." –Abraham Lincoln Tales of an Ozark Campground Proprietor Dead Drift Fly Shop
Smalliebigs Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 wow Gary and his program is really falling fast!!!! what a bummer......All is good according to most around here with Missouri's program???? I don't see a whole lot to be excited about next year???? 5and7 mabey 6and6 and a congrats you don't quite suck as badas the rest of d-1 bowl game.....not good for my olde MIZZOU
stlfisher Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 It is one year in which a lot went wrong. I am not convinced Pinkel is the answer and I wouldn't lose sleep if he was fired, but I suposse he deserves another shot. He did bring the program back from obscurity. I mean in the 90's no one even cared about Mizzou football. It has come along way. The thing that really bothers me is this team quit on Saturday. That was the most embarrasing game of the season and If I was coach I would have layed into them to set the tone for next year. They were outmatched, with no chance to win, but that was a pathetic effort. I wouldn't worry to much about a recruit changing his mind. It happens all the time...to every school. Gabbert decomitted from Nebraska and choose MU...Nebraska turned out fine and this kid is not close to that caliber of player. MU had a bad year. Next year will be a better gauge. We just had too many injury issues to overcome this year...Hard to blame the offense when they have no quarterback and for the love of god recruit someone who can snap the ball. A few plays either way this team is 8-4 or 4-8. Really really weird and frustrating year. .
ozark trout fisher Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 Bad seasons happen at just about every program, for just about every coach. This was definitely one of those. But if you are deciding whether to retain a coach, you have to look at the overall resume...Gary Pinkel (and his staff, which has stayed very constant throughout his time here) built this program from the ground up and has been about as consistently successful as anyone in the business. This was a painful and frustrating aberration, but until we see more evidence, that's about all I'm willing to call it. He deserves another shot, and despite all the rumors that say otherwise I'm very confident he will get it.
