Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted October 27, 2006 Root Admin Posted October 27, 2006 This image was sent to me by a friend who lives here in the area. We think it's a redear but the thing is it's over 11 inches long. It was caught this summer on Table Rock. What do you think?
gonefishin Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 Its a Redear and a great fish too. I am always looking for Redear but only get into them occasionally. Biggest one I caught was in the Viola area on Table Rock. PS: If your buddy ever wants to tell where his hot spots are I am listening. I would rather be fishin'. MoCarp Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 man I didn't know the rock had shell crakers--cool! MONKEYS? what monkeys?
gonefishin Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 man I didn't know the rock had shell crakers--cool! Over the years I have caught several 'crackers on TR. I can show you a couple of areas I have caught them from time to time. There is not a huge population of them. I would like to see the MDC stock some in there. Heck if there was a good place to fish for 'crackers I might even give up fishing for trout. I would rather be fishin'. "Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Thom Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 Many of the smaller lakes in Illinois stocked redear because they do not overpopulate like bluegill and other sunfish do. Years ago I fished Lake Murphoboro in southern Illinois and they had some whoppers there. You often thought that you had a bass or catfish on when they took off. Big slabbers and fought all the way to the boat. Me and my two sons fished with fly rods and red wigglers and when they were on it was a blast in the lilypads. Thom Thom Harvengt
gonefishin Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 I have an idea. Why doesnt everyone PM me their favorite Redear hot spots. Barring that how about posting some generic spots on here? I would rather be fishin'. "Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote." Benjamin Franklin, 1759
jdmidwest Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 Thats a Red Ear. Catch them every spring in Wappapello on flooded roadbeds and at Council Bluff in the rocks. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
