Members Ultralance12 Posted December 2, 2012 Members Posted December 2, 2012 I bought my first bass boat this april and got a nitro 591 (equivalent to z7 or z8 i thin) with 150 optimax. I am very happy with it. I wouldn't consider it small an it does over 60. It is definitely not of premium construction but there isn't a lot that could break that j couldn't fix on it. I don't think you really need anything bigger than a 150 if its your first one. It rakes a while to get used to them in general. Check the transom real good for cracks and get the compression test. Personally for me 16' does seem a bit small. .
lmt out Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 I have a Z6 I bought last january and I love it. Been on some rough water on stockton and it handled it well. With that being said I am going to upgrade to a Z8 or Z9. But if it is just 1 or 2 people fishing the Z6 would work fine especially if you have found a good deal. Just my 2 cents.
Bill Babler Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 Imt Out, pretty much just made my point. If you are looking at a boat to keep for a while, better look a little bigger than the Z6. Yes there will be great deals out there on the Z6. There is a reason. Good Luck http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Patrick M Posted December 2, 2012 Author Posted December 2, 2012 Thank you everyone. it would be 1 or 2 people. I don't have kids and the wife does not fish. i am usually just fishing by myself or one of my brother in laws. there may be some times i would have one smaller child with us. i just wanted something i can handle by myself because i'd say 90% of the time it is just me fishing.
Patrick M Posted December 2, 2012 Author Posted December 2, 2012 I appreciate the help. I am a tech guy by trade and i look for the best possible deal for the money. took me a year to find the right car so i know this will be a long process. this next summer i am going to start tournament fishing with one of my brother in laws and hopefully that will teach me what i need to look for and find. i hope to meet a lot of you in the coming years. my goal for next year is to fish table rock more and learn the lake. I work in branson so i am in the area daily. in the last couple years i have fished table rock about 3 times so i am new to the lake. I normally wade taney at the hatchery. i hope to make it to the Jan 1 meet up. I know it will take sometime to find the right boat. I want to be able to have it for many years and not regret my purchase. again any information will be great. thank you for all the help and i look forward to ready more posts.
Quillback Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 Here's a link to the Bass Boats Central Board, lots of used (and new) boats in the for sale section. http://www.bbcboards.net/ I picked up a Phoenix 619 this spring, been a great boat so far, a few minor teething issues, but nothing major. I plan on having this boat for a long time.
inshore Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 I own a smaller ranger with a 90 merc. I'm retired and fish both TR and stockton. I only fish during the week and feel safe in winds up to 15 to 25 but prefer 10 to 20 or less. Fish for bass and crappie by myself or one passanger. Doesn't cost a lot to run or tow and can handle by myself loading and unloading. That being said I can select the days I want to fish because I am retired. So if I was going to tournement fish or had to go because it was the only day I could go the bigger the better. I don't think I would consider anything less than 18 and would try to find a good 19 or 20.
Champ188 Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 Patrick, I am presently looking to sell my 2004 Champion 188 Elite. It's a 19-foot boat that rides like a 20-footer. Motor is a 2004 Mercury Optimax 200. In the past year, I've added a full set of new factory-original seats ($1,100) and just six weeks ago put a brand new MotorGuide Tour 82 trolling motor on it ($1,200). Both graphs also were purchased within the past 2 years and are Lowrance HDS 5's, one of which has GPS. The rig is sitting on a tandem-axle trailer with brakes. Carpet is good. Being the Elite model, it has all of the extras. This boat already knows Table Rock very well. Asking $17,000 firm. Here are a couple of pics.
Bill Babler Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 Got the gal looking pretty sweet. If that sells with all the way points, it sounds like a deal to good to pass up. My trouble would be she would keep nosing me into the bank. She probably would cough at a dropshot rod too. For sure one of the best Bass Boats ever made by anybody For an 18.9ft she has no equal. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
techo Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 Hmm ! if it comes with the way points it would be a steal! Tim Carpenter
