Mitch f Posted December 6, 2012 Author Posted December 6, 2012 Interesting comments everyone! I think you can dial down the profile of a jig to make it the same as a small tube. One of my favorite tube rigging methods for up north is what was invented by Paul Jensen, of Jensen jigs, it's called a bou-tube. He removes the tentacles off the tube and replaces them with marabou tied on the hook near the bend. Same fall as regular tube but comes alive when at rest. Another difference between tubes and jigs is that most bristle type weedguards completely change the profile of a tube, whereas with a jig the weedguard kind of gets caught up in the skirt and isn't as noticeable. Text posing works best, but isn't weedless enough for me BTW joeD....we're you using goldfish or guppies from your daughters fish tank? "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Football Head Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 french, you are thinking way to much. Rigging is way over rated, it just sells tackle, maybe you are in the tackle bizz? I used to like tubes, but lost too many fish with the bulky plastic, even when tx posed or skin hooked. I use a jig or creature bait almost all the time now., but preferably a jig as the hook up ratio is still better. But a zoom super hog or centipede can sure catch them. Jerry I'm with French on this one. I've found that the endless ways to RIG a tube is what makes it such a fish producing bait. As I previously said I prefer to throw a jig but always have a couple rods with tubes rigged differently in case things get tough. I know I can always get bites on a tube but its not always rigged the same way.

exiledguide Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 Neon tetras work well in low light conditions. Do you tail hook them or hook behind the dorsal fin with a stinger hook............or?
exiledguide Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 Mitch I think Lindy had a Fuzzy Grub on the market a loooong time ago similar to the bou tube.

I think neon tetras require a 3/4 oz brass carolina rig weight with a 6/0 Gamakatsu EWG super line hook. That way they are free to roam! "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
