ciRe Posted December 9, 2012 Author Posted December 9, 2012 I would want a bigger boat if I was going to fish downtown on the Mississippi. I caught a 70lb blue right below the alton dam on the shore. Only reeled in maybe 10 fish over 10lbs this year though. It wasn't the best year for cat fishing it seemed like.
sms_alum Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 Alright I think it looks like I have the go ahead for this Saturday. Looking forward hanging into a few nice whites and checking out some new water. Thanks again for all the info.
Smalliebigs Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 if the weather isn't too bad I will be @ Columbia Bottoms......look for a SeaArk in all camo with a Suzuki 115 on it
ciRe Posted December 11, 2012 Author Posted December 11, 2012 Wish I could join you guys but I'll be out of town on a bow hunting adventure with a few buddies.
fishinwrench Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 ......with a Suzuki 115 on it Don't forget the tow rope
Smalliebigs Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 Don't forget the tow rope I guess you think Suzuki's are not reliable????
fishinwrench Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 I dunno, nobody I know has ever bought a second one. I just thought you might need a tow rope in case there were any Honda's on the river. I was just pullin' yer chain man.

I just RESPECT your opinion on outboards and was wondering what ya think......I still was wanting you to possibly put a jet rig together for me I still have the cash sitting and waiting and as you said......I'm leaning towards an Evinrude???
Mitch f Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 All right Wrench, time for your official "put you on the spot" question. Under 100HP (OB) motors, list the top 5 in order of performance, robustness, overall best, money is no option "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
fishinwrench Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 LOL, Ok. Here's my top picks....It means nothing other than the fact that I have made friends with them all, approve of the design and never have to scratch my head wondering "WTF?", never feel compelled to throw things, and never have to study all night long just to make 40 bucks swapping out a sensor. Here we go; 9.5hp and under.... mid 80's to 1998 Yamaha 9.9-15hp... 1981 to 1992 J/E 20-35hp... 1981 to 2005 J/E 40hp... 1984 to 2005 J/E 45hp... 1986 to 1989 Merc (classic) 50hp... 1981 to 2005 J/E 70hp... 1984 to 2008 Yamaha 75hp... 2004 to 2007 Evin E-Tec 85hp... 1979 to 1995 J/E 90-115hp... 1995 to 2006 J/E (60° V4 eagle series) 150-175hp... 1991 to 2006 Evin (60° V6 eagle) 200hp... 1991 and up Merc 2.5 liter EFI I have yet to see a 4-Stroke in any hp range that I wanted to own. IMO the only good thing about a 4S outboard is that when they do run well they are quiet....that's it, everything else about them just sucks and they are a PIA to work on.
