Daryk Campbell Sr Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 Jack, yes, mine was abandoned on a piece of property I bought. It was there when I purchased the property. Mine in question is a 10' flat bottom jon boat. Not very valuable, but I wanted to use a trolling motor on a local creek. As far as the fines go, I would not take the chance (just me). Maybe you could sell this one, and take the money and purchase one with a title on craigslist. Money is just ink and paper, worthless until it switches hands, and worthless again until the next transaction. woodman Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 So what about this................. Trolling motors are NOT titled or registered in the state of Missouri. (Marine/ watercraft sec. 8) So on my 17' canoe I had a trolling motor on I never bothered with it..never got mesed with in any of the ozark streams I used it on... http://s147.photobucket.com/albums/r302/scrawford_photos/
fishinwrench Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 I have never heard anyone say that they were ticketed for having a TM on an unregistered boat, but that IS the way the law is written. You're also supposed to have lights and turn signals on a mule or donkey (but not a horse) if you ride it across a state road too.... but they don't have to be licensed. Some laws are just hiccups, brainfarts, or typos.
Jack Jones Posted December 29, 2012 Author Posted December 29, 2012 I get the feeling woodman may be right. On all the streams I've paddled, I've never seen a conservation agent. For what it's worth, I did call the State Police Inspection Unit. I got passed to one guy who swore up and down that you can't title something that didn't come with a title to begin with. Then he claimed that's what it is for cars, trucks, and such. Then he stated he wasn't sure about boats, and definitely not sure about canoes. That was helpful. So then he put me in the voicemail of the person who deals with boats. I left a message about 1:30 p.m. I never got a call back. If I don't get a call back by Wednesday or Thursday, I'll try again.
