Ran across this article today about a college experiment. Put a plastic turtle in the road and see how many cars hit it. Surprised he did not cause a wreck from someone trying to avoid it. Interesting article.

I like the little box turtles, we have several that hang around the house in the summer. Little devils like my strawberries. One that I have seen for several years has a scar on his shell that look like he may have been hit by a mower. I kept a young one in the house for a while this summer for the grandkid to watch for a few weeks then set him free.

Funny, a college experiment to see if someone would hit it. I wonder if it was a scientific or a psychologic experiment. But they state it is ok to hit a snake, most people don't like those critters.

Never would have guessed turtles would be a target.

Makes me wonder how many dogs are purposely hit and killed?

Do you remember the please don't shoot the turtle campain MDC had back in the 80's? Back then so many folks were plinking turtles on the rivers it was rare to see any sizable ones. I don't guess you ask people to not run over turtles, some folks would take it too literal and put themselves in a ditch.

I suppose every area is different. I see a lot more crossing the road around here then smashed ones, even on busy roads. Snakes, unfortunately, do not get the same respect.

I avoid hitting either if possible. Ticks on the hand are a scourge that I hate, especially seed ticks.

Some people are just idiots. Anybody who would swerve out of his way to hit a turtle has got a mental problem.
