Chris King Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 Oakley actually has a few blue lens options. Deep blue, shallow blue and ice iridium. Just a heads up. I use the shallow water blue lenses and love them. They're good in all cloud/sun conditions.
troutgnat Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 I had a pair a number of years now. They worked good but they were defective. I sent them back twice and they never fixed them correctly nor would they replace them. I will say this......Their customer service sucks! I was very disappointed and I have never gone back. I gave them the opportunity to fix the problem they chose not to take care of the customer. Since then I went to Maui Jim and I have never turned back. Their customer service is great and their product is of superior grade. Darren Sadler "Fishing is an Education...Often the fish 'school' me, yet I do not complain. I just keep going to class!"
Donna G Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Ron, I wear the original green mirror lens (not the 580s) and love them. Have two pairs (Zane and Brine models) and Donna has a pair of Harpoons, which she also adores. All have held up well except that I dropped my Zanes and broke a lens and crushed my Brines in my jacket pocket, like a numbnuts. Got lenses replaced and was back in business. Can't blame a product or a company when you break it out of abuse. The lenses are glass — you drop them, chances are they will break. They're big boy glasses, not toys. I am crazy about my Costas. I have tried a number of other brands and tested for visibility under the water against the Costas - no comparison. Champ would point out a fish that I couldn't see. I'd take off whatever flavor I was wearing at the time, put his Costas on and the difference was amazing. Ron Burgundy Posted February 17, 2013 Author Posted February 17, 2013 Champ, my Costas arrived the other day I got the green mirror lens but the green is not as dark as i thought they would be.....I got the 580, is that why?........ Gone but not forgotten Martin Ford
ness Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 Ness- I have the amber glass polychromic ones too and they are the best. I have lots of glasses but i pretty much wear the Smiths all the time. Just saw this Jason. I see some folks don't like the glass -- too heavy or fragile. I don't disagree that they are heavier. And yeah -- you drop them on some concrete they'll either chip or break. The trick is not to do that -- and I've managed not to in 10+years with one pair by keeping them on a lanyard. The little micro scratches that plastic get kinda sneak up on you. They build up on the lenses and at some point you realize they're crap. Glass won't get those. Photochromic is really nice. If I was fishing on reservoirs with the sun beating down on me all day I probably wouldn't like them as much. But when you're in the shadows they're great. I drive with them too, and I'll often forget I've got them on and drive well into dusk. John
Flippin Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 I have the mirrored ambered 580 and like them a lot. I can see a lot better in the water with them but also the fall follage colors are amazing. The colors really pop out. One thing I disliked was that they fit a little loose on my head (I dont have a large head). So I got some little rubber bands that my son wears on his braces and slide them on the arms of the sunglasses and slide them in the seam of the hinge. With the rubber bands being in the seam of the hinge it does not allow the arms to open as wide and gives them a little tension that holds them better on my face.

They just change color so fast and you forget that they are on your head. Then you look like a tool wearing sunglasses inside. Can't beat them for shady rivers and cloudy days. I want to get some grey lenses in either Costas or Smiths for carp and bass fishing out on the lake- sometimes the amber just doesn't cut it. http://flyinthesouth.com/

abkeenan Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 I just bought these and think they are a great deal at 104.99 for some angling specific polarized lenses glasses. Like I said I love Oakley and will never own anything but Oakley. http://oakleyvault.com/product/polarized-hijinx-angling-specific-sunglasses/24-113
ness Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Welp, the frame on my Smith's cracked over the lens. Gonna gather up my paperwork and take advantage of the lifetime warranty -- again. The prescription photochromic glass is near perfect, though a click or two behind on prescriptions. John
