Flysmallie Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 If the width on these old town 169 canoes is 37" what do y'all think the inside width is? In other words how wide do y'all think the lip is around the top? I'm not sure but if you wait until tonight I can measure one and tell you exactly.
Members Chico Posted February 5, 2013 Author Members Posted February 5, 2013 That would be great! If you could measure the narrowest point behind the front seat and also between the two braces would help tremendously!

My seats and braces are no where near factory. Not even sure if I can figure out where those points are at this point but I'll take a look and see.
tjulianc Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Might check out the Canyon Coolers too. Suppose to be same type quality, but a bit cheaper. I kind of have my heart set on the Canyon 50 quart Cube. I think it would fit nicely in my canoes. http://canyoncoolers.com/index.php?main_page=index Biggest thing with coolers, even if you have a high dollar one, is to pre-cool it with ice, and chill or freeze all items going into it. That way you aren't using the ice you are bringing on your trip to cool down the insulation. My cheap walmart type cooler does fine in the heat of the summer for about 3 or 4 days if I pre-cool it, pack it with block ice, keep a wet towel draped over it, and try to keep it closed as much as possible. I will bring a small cooler with me with enough beverages and a lunch for the first day or so. If I did all that with a Yeti type cooler, and maybe even a little dry ice, I bet it would keep for 6 days or longer.
Flysmallie Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 I can keep my steel belted coleman in ice for several hot summer days with a little dry ice. We even took some Andy's custard on the river a couple of years ago and it was frozen solid when we pulled it out. You want to hear dead silence on a river for a few minutes whip out some ice cream on the gravel bar. Now where is my tape measure??
joeD Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 Freeze gallon water jugs for your food cooler. As they (frozen gallon jugs) melt, use as drinking water. Have another cooler filled with ice. Keep as much food or drink as you can, OUT of your coolers. You'd be surprised. If you're floating in the summer, then, having ice is critical. Having nothing cold to drink halfway through a long, multiday float is absolutely demoralizing. Example: Instead of taking a ton of beer and using valuable cooler real estate keeping it cold, take a 12 pack or less, and bring a bottle or two of bourbon (decanted into a clean plastic liter soda bottle of course). That liquor doesn't need a cooler. See? Thirdly, why is a (specific) cooler playing such a large part in your plans? I think your Yeti will understand if you have to leave him home on this adventure (sniff).

Well one reason is that we sell yeti's and I can get one very cheap compared to retail so that's gonna happen anyway and I'd like to have one that will fit in this canoe so I can use it on our yearly trip. I'm sick of cheap ice chests honestly.
Flysmallie Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 Thanks man!!!! I do appreciate it!!! No problem. Of course that 29.5 is right up against that brace. Left a little space in my arrows there. And don't mind joeD. He let's other people's enjoyment upset him for some reason. It's kind of like going to a wet t-shirt contest with your mom.
