Not sure your price range but I really like my e21 carrot stick. Get it in heavy action works great. But for a lil more I like my micro duckett even better both are great sensitive strong rods in my experiences

David. Depends on your price point. To be honest Bass Pro doesn't carry all that many brands and doesn't have each model/action of each rod always in stock so its kind of a crap shoot as to what they have at the current time you go up there. At least that is the case for the St. Charles location here in St. Louis, if you are going to Springfield they have a lot more in stock. That being said if you wait a couple of weeks BPS has their annual Spring Classic Fishing sale and they do a rod trade in. Trade an old rod in and get a discount on your new rod purchase. Can save you anywhere from $5-$100 bucks depending on how much the new rod you want costs. Its a pretty good program if you ask me. Here is the link for info and $ breakdown:

http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CFPageBasic?storeId=10151&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&appID=206&template=rod.cfm&storeID=14

Just from past questions like yours from other forums I belong to you will get about 10 different answers from 10 different people on rod preferences. The common answer go test them out at the store and get the one that is comfortable for you. People also recommend you put whatever reel you are going to put on it and put it on that rod in the store and feel it out. Bass Pro should let you do this if you ask. I don't know your price point or budget but here is a list of what a lot of guys like in the $100-$200 range:

- Duckett Micro Magic

- Shimano Crucial

- Powell Endurance

- Dolbyns Savy

- Denali Jadewood

- Abu Garcia Veritas

- 13 Fishing Omen

Those seem to be the most popular rods going at the moment, of those brands Bass Pro carries Duckett, Shimano and Abu Garcia. The others can be found at Tackle Warehouse or other retailers. Good luck with your search for the "perfect one".

Are you looking at a "true" flip stick, 7'6" to 8', or a big 7 foot rod? Keep in mind the length of your rod box when looking at one piece vs. retracting handle rods. Being forced to step around a one piece 7'6" stick because the box won't eat it makes for a long day up front.

Might be careful of the micro guides. They drop weight, but can be a problem with big sticks and big line.

For me, weight is really the deciding factor with the big sticks. A split grip will help with that. At the high end check out the St Croix's built on SCIV or SCV blanks. Mid $ range the Powell recommendation from ABK is a good one. The Mojo rods from St Croix are pretty well built, but start to run a little heavy at that length and power.

Nice suggestions, one and all. BUT.

If I were going to put this together, which I have. I need a duel purpose outfit that fishes big, fast and light. Fishing is my life and cutting edge is always on my mind.

Right now the best tecnology for the money and for sure one of the finest multi-purpose big outfits on the market is available.

This outfit not only is ergonomic and can be fished all day at under 8 ozs. but has the versitility that I need. Weather you are flippin, fishing an A-Rig, or fishing multiple straight line or single Swimbaits, up to just about any fresh water size this will handle it. It would also be and is being used for Musky and Pike in the Northland.

Start off with Falcon's Mike McCellends Signature Flippin Stick this is a Cara T7 Signature MMC-7-176T 7'6" teloscopic-Split Grip 13 guides. Weight under 2 oz.

Price $299.99

Pair this with a Team Lew's Pro Reel at 5.9 oz. 11 bearing titanium body 7.1 gear ratio. $299.99.

There is only one way to make this better. Only One. But you must have the bank account to do it, and most don't You can substitute to Lew's for a Diawa Steez, but you just added another $400.00 to the price and only came down in weight .2 oz.

I have 4 of these and have two with the Lew's and two with the Steez. 99.9 percent of the fishing population, will not be able to tell the difference and it is very slight. Not enough for most to justify the more expensive Steez.

Either one of those outfits weigh under a double 1/4 pounder with cheese, and you can fish them all day. I have found Bass Pro is not always the best place to put top quality fishing gear like this together. You might check around for pricing. They are really good however if anything ever does go wrong. They for the most part don't seem to care and just replace it. Most others go thru the factory, but BP has always replaced everything that I have ever had a problem with. I don't however buy much from them.

Good Luck

Great info Bill. Its hard to suggest rods without knowing a price point or budget. The typical weekend warrior (like myself) is typically in the $100-$200 range for a rod and about the same for a reel with a combo around 200-400 dollars which I why I suggested what I did. I was going to suggest The Falcon Amistad or Mike McClelland Signature also but those are 300 clams a piece. I haven't used them before (out of my price range) but I do have 2 Falcon's (a Bucoo and a Cara). Love both and don't really see any difference in the models other than the cork vs no cork. Action, weight, balance and sensitivity seem to be just about identical. Falcon makes some of the finest rods out there for sure. As far that the reel, I will also vouch for Lew's reels. I have 3 of them and they might be the new standard in the industry especial at the price point they have their models. Once again I don't have the top of the line $299.99 Lews models but I have some of the lower end models and they are just fantastic so I can only imagine the top grade models being out of sight awesome performers. I have Shimano Curado E7s, Pfluegers, Pro Qualifiers and Lews....the Lew's are by far the best bang for your buck and are made right there in Bass Pro's back yard in Springfield if I am not mistaken. Thumbs up on both Lews and Falcon. Can't go wrong with any product they put out.

You are right, it is very hard, not knowing how much money can be spent. That is why I really like the combo that I suggested as it is multifunctional and can be used for lots of different applications, other than just as a flipper.

With the telescoping length, this rod drops to about 6'6" and the split-grip allows most of us two handed casters to sling an A-Rig compeletely out of sight. I love this rod for fishing big swimbaits in the 6" range and up. Saw a guy in a derby on Bull Shoals last year fishing this rod using an A-Rig with 5-10" baits on it.

The baits weighed more than the Rod and Reel combo.

The BooCoo is a completely different modular structured rod than the Cara, LowRider or the Origional. Not nearly the blank, but it is not suspose to be. Lots more difference than just the handle.

I think the Amastead is 7'3" instead of 7'6" and the it does not telescope. Could be wrong as I did not look it up. I know it is a super jig rod.

Bill recommended the Falcon Cara Amistad rod last year to me, and I love it! I flip, pitch and throw football jigs on it. Great rood with a multi functional capabilities.
