Things To Do, Places To Eat

Will be making my annual pilgrimage over to beaver in march. First half of my 10 days will be all about fishing and camping, the second half though I have rented a house by Hickory and will have alot of family down to do a little fishing and alot of other stuff. They enjoy all the good eating, sightseeing and shopping for antiques and bargains. Any recomendations of places to visit for them? Good thrift stores or antique areas, historical sites, or other sights to see or good eateries. AQ chickens and the pizza place in rogers sound like a good start, but looking for others. I will be on the boat eating pb&j, but the others will need to be entertained. Thanks for any suggestions

Screw AQ go to Montne Chicken House, of course you need to hit Crystal Bridges as well, Cabelas is open for the guys.

Yeah definitely send them over to Crystal Bridges, it's free, and now one of the top art museums in the country. Gusano's pizza which has 3 locations, Rogers, Bentonville, and I believe Fayetteville. There's an American Indian museum in Bentonville also, lots of arrowheads and other artifacts to see there. Pea Ridge and Prairie Grove battlefields. I haven't been there, but I hear Har-Ber village over in Grove OK, is neat to see. And on the way to Grove you'll pass antique and thrift places. Check the U of A baseball schedule, they are currently ranked #1, might be fun to take in a game.

The guys have hit a lot of the good ones above. Another would be the Sam Walton 5 and dime on the square in downtown Bentonville. It's a small museum of the early Wal-Mart days. Daisy BB gun museum in downtown Rogers, if you're interested in that kind of thing. If you have time, spend a day in Eureka Springs. Tons of shopping and eats over there. If you go, make sure you have a drink at the 3rd floor bar in the Crescent Hotel. Great view from up there! Bubba's BBQ is excellent over there.

Bubba's opens in March, but I think the Rockin' Pig has better BBQ. There are many places in Eureka to eat, shop and whatnot. Just walking up Spring Street to see the springs is interesting in itself. The tiger sanctuary (Turpentine Creek) south of town is worth a visit for folks who are into that. Pied Piper has great burgers and an interesting crowd. Angler's Grill west of town on 62 should be open by then; haven't tried it yet, but it has a good reputation and all-you-can-eat catfish.

There is a huge thrift store on hwy 62 and 13th street in Rogers, can't remember the name but you can't miss it lots of brand new junk for a bargain. Bella Vista is great for Thursday thru Sunday garage sales just check craigslist, lots of retired people selling old furnishings and hobby equipment.

War Eagle mill is also a local attraction and home site for antique hunters and hobbyist. My favorite lunch spot is Catfish John's on hwy 62 also good frog legs.

Always stop by Hook,Line and Sinker in Bella Vista and check the used rods and reels they always have the last years top of the line rods for cheap since there are a lot of anglers that like to keep up with the Jones around there.

There are some great river trips out of Noel, MO and it is a great little town with a court square on the river that reminds me of little towns 40 years ago. Easy to rent a canoe for a family float trip and some great smallmouth fishing in waist deep water.

I am curious as to why you would say that? Its a pretty neat operation actually, the folks that run it are very nice, and the animals are being rescued from unsafe, or unhealthy situations.

Can you go visit big cats, and help their cause in some other way any closer to the Beaver Lake area?

Crystal bridges is a must do!

Ron's burgers gets great reviews, ive eaten there once, it was good.

Flying Fish Seafood, across from the old Harps, a block off the Bentonville square. Huge menu, great food, very reasonable prices, and a fisherman's decor.
