Just got a bass boat with the above mentioned engine. It seems to idle rough to me and also shakes some at idle. Runs down the lake great starts fine, but just the rough idle. Is this normal? I have a 2004 evinrude 150 DI and it is not near this rough. Thanks Jason.

Be careful. I have heard some bad stories about 01 Efi Mercs. I would get it checked out before you put any more time on it. Just to be safe. Not sure if 200 were having problems but i do know that 225 were bad about seizeing up. My intention is not to scare you. I am just trying to look out for you and your wallet.

Last one I had in with those symptoms had some debris in the needle valve of the vapor separator which was flooding the vent lines with raw fuel during low consumption (idle) throttle settings.

But there are a dozen other situations that can cause a rough or unstable idle.

I recommend that you get it checked out by someone that knows their beans cuz it ain't gonna fix itself, and it's only gonna get worse until you do.

The only issues I am aware of are not issues specific to that year/model.

They don't like to set long periods of time without being run.

And the charging system (voltage regulators and stator) will overheat and fail if you try to get too much time out of a battery, or if you use a battery that does not meet the required specs.

I can vouch for the voltage regulator failure. My 2000 model 200 EFI regulator caught fire and burned everything on the outside of the engine block. The only good thing was it was covered by insurance since it was damaged by fire. I put the insurance money on a new Pro XS 200. Boy do I see a difference in hole shot (3 liter vs. 2.5 liter) and fuel economy now.
