Tim Smith Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 If we're "inching toward a cliff in the fog". Who's to say where this ends up. The Venus scenario is sort of the "worst of all possible worlds" in terms of global warming outcomes. It's in the realm of possibility, but I don't think most climate experts aren't expecting it to happen. As Wayne points, out we can't be entirely certain. What climatologists are pretty well certain about is the 3 degree C increase (we're about 1/4 of the way into that already) that is more or less inevitable now. That's going to be bad enough. For instance If you're expecting to fish the lower Poudre this year, you can pretty much forget it. The watershed is already on fire again with 1000 acres gone on top of the 200 square miles that burned in there last year. We're about to start water rationing in about a month out here in Denver...really funny stuff. Jeb, Phil has explained over and over that he's not going to X a climate thread until someone goes personal or profane.
jdmidwest Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 What about the Mars scenario? It was like Earth for a while, till something disasterious happened to change it. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson

I like how AGW alarmist are always picking out local events to show the imagined impacts of AGW, but tell us we're taking it out of context when we do the same about cooler or wetter than normal areas. But I like to respect the board owners wishes, so always feel compelled to point out these threads are against the rules here. John B 08 Skeeter SL210, 225F Yamaha

When it was first dubbed global warming those who did it should have realized the inability of some to understand it. It should have been called climate change, which most now call it, and much of the confusion could have been avoided. Obviously some still don't comprehend what is causing our climate change so let me simplify it so we can all be on the same page. Overall global temperatures are trending upward causing melting of the polar ice caps, less sea ice etc. This is leading to higher ocean temperatures which can lead to big swings in our weather patterns. It might be drought, floods, record highs, record snows, more hurricanes, more weather which would be called abnormal. Get global warming out of your head and replace it with climate change, and I think we all agree it is happening. Outside Bend Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 We could discuss the big fires in Texas, in Russia, in Australia, or in the arctic- which hasn't burned in thousands of years. It's not a "local event." <{{{><

Yes, most realize that the name of the religion has changed to the much more general "Climate Change" now. Great name for the alarmist movement, no doubt. They can call anything climate change. Dry, wet, cold, hot, whatever. The sky is falling no matter what. Brilliant. John B 08 Skeeter SL210, 225F Yamaha

It's not a "local event." And 10,000 years ago, glaciers covered much of North America. That was not a local event either. The earth was going through wild "climate changes" before we ever came along. And will go through them again long after we're all gone. John B 08 Skeeter SL210, 225F Yamaha
Jerry Rapp Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 and last year at this time when we were talking about bass going on beds so early because of the big warm up all we saw were co2 graphs, temp max graphs, etc. Now we have been stuck in the deep freeze basically for 45 days and the Climate Change b.s. comes up. Use some common sense and try to think for yourself. I am off to get a 32 oz big gulp.
