Forsythian Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 Howdy folks. I'm getting ready to buy another set of trailer tires, and am getting motivated about fixing an underlying problem. I have a single axle EZ. Seems the outside of the tire on the port side is always scrubbing. I'd appreciate advice on how to approach this, thanks. Cenosillicaphobiac
Wayne SW/MO Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 If I understand you, it sounds like an axle bent at the wheel. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
fishinwrench Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 Axle may have just slid back on one side throwing it out of square. Inspect the axle to frame attachment and it should be obvious where it USED to be.....just move it back. Loosen the bolts and use a come-along, then tighten it all back up good.
Dutch Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 A third thing that can cause this type of wear is something beginning to go bad with that wheel bearing. I had that issue and it took a new bearing to fix it.

Forsythian Posted March 29, 2013 Author Posted March 29, 2013 Thanks guys, I may have overstated how bad it scrubs. If I rotate, they last 4 or 5 years (about 2 thousand miles per year I'd guess). It's been that way since I've owned the boat 10+ years. I think Wayne might be right that the alignment issue is close to the wheel mount. A year or two ago I placed a 2x4 flush against the outside of both tires and measured between them, and the front edges seemed significantly closer than the rear edges of the tires. Wasn't too sure how accurate it was. Cenosillicaphobiac
grizwilson Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 Contact the folks at EZ, my Ti was damaged in a accident several years ago, they fixed it cheaper than anyone, less than half of any estimate, since they built it they had the parts etc. g “If a cluttered desk is a sign, of a cluttered mind, of what then, is an empty desk a sign?”- Albert Einstein
