Members nobutt56 Posted April 13, 2013 Members Posted April 13, 2013 i agree white bass are terrible food. fun to catch taste like crap!.
Walcrabass Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 To all Fishermen, I have read all this discussion on the taste of the White Bass. Let me give you a method of preparing fish that have a little "Red Meat" in their flesh. Soak the filets in a bowl of heavily salted water and add about 2 Tablespoons of WHITE VINEGAR. Place in the refrigerator 24 hours. Take them out and rinse the bowl and fillets well in cold water. Put fillets back in bowl with only water. Place in Refrigerator for another 24 hours. Repeat the rinsing and plain water for 3 more days. The fillets will give up the blood in the meat and they will become almost "Crappie White". I have done this for years with White Bass, Carp, Buffalo, Drum, etc. You can now fix them in your favorite way...fried or baked.
Ham Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 You do know that you don't have to eat every fish you catch. To put it another way, you can go catch fish for the enjoyment of figuring them out and catching a few. You put them right back into the water after you catch them. No muss, no fuss. Members parsonsles87 Posted April 16, 2013 Members Posted April 16, 2013 in my opinion a hybrid is aclose second to crappie, maybe they taste better when they fight so dang good lol.. and walleye third. just my opinion. but any red meat will ruin it! are you guys splitting ur fillets in half and getting the WHOLE red line out?
Members Haulin Bass Posted April 17, 2013 Author Members Posted April 17, 2013 HELL NO! I EAT EVERYTHING I KILL! I follow the law, respect the water, and measure my fish. (THEN EAT!) BEST TASTING FISH (WITHOUT ALL THE DAM PREP WORK!) #1) Mid sized WALLEYE! (* But that darn things are so hard to catch around here, it's hard to have a good fish fry) #2) ANY AND ALL CRAPPIE! (Black/White/Big/Bigger, it's all "the other white meat to me! AND DARN GOOD EATING!) Booyah! #3) It's hard to pass on a nice mess of Blue Gills. (*They taste closer to Crappie than White Bass do!) #4) Large Mouth, Small Mouth, And Kentucky. Bass are pretty dag gone good and tasty to me! #5) TROUT,,,, any and all trout, the Brook Trout taste the best. Rainbow and Browns are pretty good too! #6) Catfish, if fillets are cut right, and the crap cut off, I can almost eat Catfish, Channel, Flatheads are better than the rest. #7)Then Maybe White Bass, when cut up right. Don't get me wrong, I'll Eat It! I JUST DON'T LIKE IT! But i never said I don't like to catch them. And when I do, I THROW THOSE WHITE BASS BACK! P.S. i never had Stripped Bass, never had a Paddle Fish/ Spoon Bills, so I can't fairly rate those! But this list is exclusive to MO. And of all the fish I have caught, Salt water fish KICK butt! Tuna, Snapper, Flounder, Mahi Mahi,,,, even Eel tastes better than White Bass. #7) And Finally, all the rest, Carp, Gar, Muski, Drum,,,, now, those fish I will throw back!
Members Haulin Bass Posted April 17, 2013 Author Members Posted April 17, 2013 p.s. "Haulin' Bass" is the name of my boat. But since I finally got it fixed up right, her new name is "THE MILLENNIUM FALCON!" And Crappie Fishin' is my Mission'.
frying eyes Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 Amen Haulin Bass! Try spoonbill, right up there with crappie.
