Kayser Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 7x, soft hookset, then she porpoised to give me a good look. But now I know where she lives. Just praying for more rain... WARNING!! Comments to be interpreted at own risk. Time spent fishing is never wasted.
Nortrad Posted April 17, 2013 Author Posted April 17, 2013 It will rain, not sure how much they'll get on the river. Cold snap is not going to help. There will be another day to land another big fish...
Idylwilde Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 I counted 14 brown trout on the Montauk Lodge lunker board over 3# yesterday that was from March 1 till yesterday. 65 last year and 160 year before last. Seems like the brown trout of trophy size is having trouble getting out of the park without being on a stringer. NOTE: year before last they were 25 of them that were over 8#. Take a Child Fishing they are the future of the sport.

laker67 Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 No problems with fishermen and their first lunker, or fish of a lifetime keep. That is what trout fishing is all about and always has been in my lifetime. When the same names re-occur on the lunker board, over and over, year after year, then greed and the "look at me" attitude has taken control of their fishing mindset. They are no longer doing it just for enjoyment of the sport. They have a complex or void that needs to be filled, and often as not, leads to the underhanded dealings, snagging cheating etc, as in the recent derby event at montauk. Myself and several others on this forum have witnessed this for years. We could name names but we won't.
Members jfrith Posted April 21, 2013 Members Posted April 21, 2013 Yep, seein less and less bigger browns everytime i go now, really is sad. Caught this 23" back in early January though, released in good shape too.
Gavin Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 Think there are a few park angler jackwagons that get off on filling limits of 15" plus browns....15" is still a so what fish on the river, but the 4 brown limit in the park puts a hurt on the population of big fish. It was a horrible oversight by MDC. What's so hard about measuring a fish and identifying a rainbow or a brown..My 5 year old knows the difference. Park regs should match the regulations on the water below when it comes to brown trout.
Nortrad Posted April 22, 2013 Author Posted April 22, 2013 I support your opinion, there should be a change in the reg's.
