After finding over 10 pounds of morels yesterday, I decided to try my luck at filling my final turkey tag today. I got to my spot about 15 minutes before shooting time, deployed decoys out front in the edge of a field and found a nice stump back in the woods to lean against. At shooting time, the temps were still warm and muggy. Two toms started sounding off down the hill behind me. I would call and they would answer getting a little closer each time. After 20 minutes or so, they were getting close enough to think this deal was getting sealed. Not so. They got hung up behind a little bull dozed rock bank just out of sight about 40 yards away. The temps made a quick drop. A shot was fired close but not too close and the birds shut up and went away. After the temp change, the woods became absolutely quiet for close to an hour. Off to my left I heard a few putts, so I called a few times and the putts worked their way back behind me just beyond the row of bull dozed rocks. Again, no birds sighted. Another 30 minutes later, I heard putts off to the left this time heads to the field an towards my decoys. I did not call this time. They worked thier way along the edge of the field and finally into sight. I thought they were hens so I just watched them. They got about 20 yards away and I realized they all 3 had little beards sticking straight out. I did not even have my gun ready. They all moved to the right closer to the decoys and behind a brush pile allowing me to get my gun up. When they came out from behind the brush, I once again confirmed a beard and let one of the three have some number 4 hot lead injections. One of the other 2 that were left came running right at me then stopped about 5 feet away and slowly walked behind me. The other ran to the decoys and stopped. The bird I shot gave one more flop, and the bird in the decoys then came trotting right over to me. I thought he was going to run me over

Billet, Is that a Binelli SBEII I see tucked behind that turkey. Great shot gun. Got one myself. Nothing better. Mine has yet to take a turkey this season.

Luckycraft it is a Binelli but the Vinci model. Both the wife and I have one. Yes they are a sweet gun. You have a day left to get that bird!

My buddy and I both shot jakes when 3 of them came running up to us on the 2nd day of the season. That Saturday I called one in for my neighbor and that summed up my turkey season. I have a picture of the jakes on my FB but don't have them on this computer.
