Wont bass with "short genetics" still grow to be fairly big if they live long enough? A lot of the genetic culling that people do to manage deer herds yes involves taking deer with poor genetics so they cant continue the line of poor genes BUT, they know for a fact those "bad genetic" deer are old/mature. It is much harder to tell how old a fish is. I just keep anything legal if I am in need of fish in the freezer but if I dont need any fish I let them all go. There are too many fish and not enough people consistantly keeping large fish to make a big impact in my opinion.

I do know most of the "catch and keep" types will keep every big Bass they catch, and it does make an impact. You are mistaken.

I am all for releasing fish to help the population continue to thrive but when people need fish to eat they got to keep them. If they arent going to eat them then that is a different story. If a large enough impact is being made on the population out there then maybe those concerned about the big fish being kept should relay concerns to the MDC. Im sure they would know the best way to help the fish populations. Also, on a completely different note.. There is still a 6hp limit out there is there not? I see tons of boats out there with 7.5, 9.9, 15 and even bigger hp motors and it drives me nuts. Also, are jug and limb lines legal out there too? I though those werent allowed either..

A guy with a 20HP about rocked me out of my kayak the other day. Came within about 20' at full throttle. To say I was perturbed by the situation was a mild understatement. I didn't turn him in because I couldn't catch the tags quick enough. Had I, I most definetely would have reported that one. Part of the reason why I fish Springfield so much more than Fellows is so I don't have to deal with it.

As for the keeping or releasing of fish... I doubt honestly that a trophy fishery will ever exist on Springfield. I started the idea almost as food for thought. It would be neat, but I figure the 6 fish limit really isn't going to put a large dent into the population if the majority of anglers are catch and release anyway, and those that catch and keep are always going to be in to keep the really nice fish, which any way you look at it, means there is less of a chance of catching a nice fish again (whether it is the same or a younger generation of that fish).

And DARNED the luck with this rain and snow. I was ready to hit the lake again tomorrow, but that may be postponed until Sunday afternoon once again!

I'm guilty I have a 9.9. But I always idle when I pass anybody even bank fisherman. I had an old 9.9 laying around so that's what I use. I didn't have a guy with a 6 horse new Yamaha on a bigger boat pass me the other day so I'm not to worried

you law breaker. I have to say, most everyone is courteous and idles by, as do I. I don't have problems with people that have a little larger motor as long as they aren't throwing a big wake and are looking out for there fellow angler. I do believe that you are not suppose to wade. I have seen video's of the "slab daddy" that have been posted on here in a float tube. He was rippin bass and crappie. I don't have problems with that either.
