Jacob W Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 Yes dtrs, those grubs are hard to find. Reds tackle shop in Lakeview used to sell them in bulk, and was the only place I could ever find them. And they are awesome for cold water fishing. Some of the biggest spots I've ever caught were on that rig.
dtrs5kprs Posted May 27, 2013 Author Posted May 27, 2013 I have a number of medium action spinning combos ranging anywhere from 6-7' in length and baitcasters combos in the same lengths in med - med heavy. Usually use the 7' spinning rig for drop shot. Just be easy on them with the M blanks.

They still carry a lot of good old time clear water smallmouth gear. Used to sponsor the old Billy Westmorland show. Lot of other good finesse gear as well, and some hard to find items. http://www.nbswebstore.com/cgi-bin/web_store/web_store.cgi?view=products&cart_id=9213256_7384&product=SoftbaitsGrubs&manufact=MANN'S%20STING%20RAY%20GRUB
fowlthing Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 Used the Ned rig for the first time this weekend. 4# test. Little easy to break off. But it worked. Glad to have another go to bait.

Pepe Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 If the idea is to fish it on slack line, is fluorocarbon line needed. What about braid with a FC leader or mono? I caught a topwater bass today that spit up 2 of the ned baits in PBJ

I caught a topwater bass today that spit up 2 of the ned baits in PBJ I run it on Invizx, lots of folks (including Ned and Stacey King) run it on braid with an FC leader. Tried that and hated it, but it is likely a personal preference. Don't like having to re-do a leader out there in the wind when fishing alone. Mono will work, but brings along all the mono vs. FC issues. Baits were not mine, mine are super glued on the head .
exiledguide Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 Walk down memory lane, Sting Ray grub............Tom Mann, Jerry Mcinis, Billy Westmorland,..... and I had a lot more hair......... I didn't know anyone was still making Them.
Guest Posted June 2, 2013 Posted June 2, 2013 Today was my baptism of the Ned rig. It finally shined. I was using the 1/8oz arky head from Walmart. The wire guard lost of few fish but it also helped in brush. So that's a trade off. I could tell that hook is too big, but at least I learned how to fish it. I caught most of these bass in between spawning areas and deep banks. A flick shake would have caught the same fish. But the zinkers didn't tear up like flick shake worms. I caught 12 bass out of the 25 bites. The number of extra bites was surprising. Lots of times those unexpected bites came as I reeled it back for another cast. Then the switch went off. Swimming it generated more bites than letting it marinate. A pendulum approach starting getting bites. But I smoked it past most of the fish. 1/16oz jigheads will fix that issue.
