Just trying to get a facebook group started for our small 4 corners of the 4 States. Bragging Pics, Info sharing, Trip Reports, Maybe some articles, etc. Just a bunch of people who love fishing trying to help eachother out, same as on here.

Group is called Four State Fishing Enthusiasts.

Thanks for looking :-)post-11094-0-36126200-1367951458.png

What is this Facebook thing anyway?

I use facebook. Use it for keeping up with friends, family. Use if for our business, church. It's a good tool.

I don't really seek out fishing stuff on it though. To be honest, facebook is direct competition for OA and OAF.

But it is what it is. I don't begrudge people who use facebook for their fishing stuff. I believe a forum is a better medium to share information to a broader audience. But that's not what some want to do - and again I understand it.

I'll be very honest - I've wanted to have a site built to incorporate the forum and website into a combined site, integrated with social media like facebook. The developers said they could build a social site around fishing- they'd be nothing like it. But the cost, 6 figures, put a damper on the idea. I don't have the business savy to do it.

I think fishermen will keep coming back to the forum for one simple reason - because there are good anglers here to love to share information, and as long as you all stay, OAF will do ok.

I got on Facebook when it was relatively new. My daughter had been begging me to let her sign up, and I said yes as long as I was her first friend. It has been a lot of fun reconnecting with people, and also a reminder why I didn't keep up with others. I've turned off notifications on probably more than half my 'friends'. The 'groups' function is a mess on there -- just not very good at sharing information with a bunch of people. This forum is far, far superior. I've heard more than one kid say they don't use FB anymore, because it's just adults now. They all tweet.

Doing the same thing as you Ness. I got on there because my daughters wanted on there and I wasn't allowing that unless I could keep a close eye on them or more importantly how people were treating them. It's good to keep up with distant friends and relatives and showcase pics and info but as far as going back and forth like we do here it's not much good.

Yep the kids are dropping off fast. Twitter started some of that and now Snapchat seems to be a big deal. My oldest (19) has quite the Twitter following. It's pretty impressive to see the list of followers with people like John Mayer and such. But I don't really get it. Especially after she blocked me!!

As if I needed a reason to like John Mayer any less.

Ha!! He actually started following her after she slammed him a few times on Twitter.
