This has been a heated topic for a long time now, but i'd like to make an observation I've seen over the years on the farm growing cotton. Cotton maturity is determined by accumulated heat heat units derived from the averaging the days high and low temperature. Later planted cotton can be made to mature earlier due to more heat units. When my grandfather was raising cotton in the 40's, they'd plant so early that the was always battling potential frosts and even freezes to get the cotton in early enough to make the yield it needed, when May rolled around, you were really late for planting. Over they years that date has been pushed back, now we can plant at the end of May, and still have pretty much full yield potential, and it's been this way for the past 15 to 20 years now. Granted varieties have contributed some to that date, but there's evidence that show that we accumulate more heat units on average than we did back In the day. Not saying what's causing it, but something I believe is different. Ironically, many of our record high's for the summer months here in NE AR were set in 1901, a bunch of them! Of course 1980 has it fair share here as well, one day it hit 116.

These observations are the kind of things that really get my attention. Numbers on paper can be discounted, but stories like this show that global warming is changing the way people live their lives. Thanks for sharing your story

I think the part that Phil does not tolerate is the direct attacks and name calling that usually becomes of these threads. Civil discussion of any topic is usually allowed.

That does seem to be the case. But his current rule, which I try to respect, is:

Don't Start Another Topic On Climate Change Or Politics Or...

Which is what I'd like to see him modify officially. But given what he's said in this thread, I, like many here already have, will ignore it going forward.

Must have told you 10 times, Jeb. Glad to see you finally come around.

Also, I'd encourage you to not ignore the spirit of Phil's post. He put it up to be sure people knew that's a sensitive topic and to be respectful and on point...

I sought out clarification as soon as (before, really) it went up. Most people were aware of the ground rules as they're pretty much common sense.

Hope you folks are ok in MO today. OK just got ripped to pieces.

I changed the rules just a bit. Here they are:

I will not GUESS whether a person registering is a REAL person or a SPAMMER any longer. If you are NOT clear in using a screen name that is YOUR NAME or a PROPER name of some kind, preferably FISHING related, then you're out of luck.

EXAMPLES: djones948 is not a REAL name. Dave Jones is a real name. iddjfishk100 is not a fishy name. Joey Largemouth is.

Use spaces. You CAN use spaces.

Please take a moment to review these rules detailed below. If you agree with them and wish to proceed with the registration, simply click the "Register" button below. To cancel this registration, simply hit the 'back' button on your browser.

First- we all will respect each other - no bashing or being rude.

Second- no "shoot cursing". That's when bad words are altered to get by the admin... it won't this admin.

Third- OAF doesn't mind links posted to other sites as long as they are sites of interest by OAF folks. Of course no inappropriate sites will be tolerated. Posting links is acceptable by "frequent users and contributors' of OAF. Please don't "spam" the board with nothing but links, no matter if the sites are useful to anglers or not.

Fourth (and this has become a big one) - Please read some of the forums, threads and articles before posting questions. Chances are someone has already asked your questions, whether it be about current fishing or upcoming conditions. If your question is relative-- go for it! But please don't post "How's fishing?" or "What are they biting on?" if that subject has already been covered.

Fifth - No political topics. Keep politics out of this fishing forum. No religious topics.

Clearly most people do not read these rules before registering... most are common sense stuff.

Must have told you 10 times, Jeb.

What you tell me is irrelavant compared to what the forum owner had posted for rules.

I don't think those rules applied when I signed up for this forum. I guess I am grandaddyed in.

Looks like the global warming issues are cover under the false information rule.

You can change your screen name if you've posted, I think, 50 times. Regardless, I can change or add spaces - just send me a PM.

Global warming, Gun Control, even hog farming can all be thought of as politically motivated as politics does play into them to diffrent degree's. If all people talked about was the outdoors things would get old real fast. Its important for a website to be able to have discussion on multiple topics for it to survive. The topic in and of itself is not the problem it is the people posting to it. Emotions and Views vary which is a good thing for thought. The issue arises when people intentionaly attack other members.

Ive been in Phils place you can either allow topics and moderate them or be heavy handed and not, but how much of a persons time should be spent keeping adults in line?
