Feathers and Fins Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 What was the total cost for the solar power installation? If you're willing to spend enough money, then you can probably power your house and charge your electric car with solar power. I've thought about installing solar panels on my house, but the payback doesn't work out. Plus your in Bella Vista and POA doesn't play nice. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
jeb Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 i read the whole darn thing mostly about eagles that aren't even endangered anymore. My apologies. I thought you hadn't read it, but It seems it's a reading comprehsion issue instead. I understand now. Take your wrinkled up scrotum over to Sarah Palins house and have a good time! Sorry Phil. So it's okay if you step over the line, as long as you apologize to the board owner when you do it? Can you confirm that's the way it works, Phil? Thanks. John B 08 Skeeter SL210, 225F Yamaha
Greasy B Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 threads like these are ridiculous because it's just a bunch of guys who know nothing about the subject spewing their uneducated nonsensical opinions. Everyone knows everything. That's why this is so entertaining, it's like conversations I use to listen to in the taverns of Granite City. They take surplus production back to the grid to recover their costs. Regional differences might not make the same deal work in MO. We get 300 days of sun a year.
Quillback Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 I wish they would do it here for $200, unfortunately we can't send surplus back into the grid.

Quillback Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 I was under the impression they had to as long as the transfer system was approved? Last I checked, maybe a year ago or so, they did not provide credit for surplus energy produced. But if that's changed, I'm all ears.

Everyone knows everything. Not sure how much information is needed. I've looked into it a couple times and wired in 3 systems. While it seems to be pretty easy to build your own if you put in the time and of course that would cut the cost. To be most efficient they should automatically follow the sun, but that can be very expensive. They don't require a lot of maintenance, nothing compared to turbines, but they do require some so they need to be accessible. There's really not a lot know when it come to this discussion, it's feasible or it isn't and every installation would have its challenges if it was a retrofit. New construction wouldn't be all that hard though. What can be saved is is like every other challenge, it would depend on what the system cost and what it would save based on pass usage. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

Yeah I just looked myself and apparently it is still up to the states. I was under impression that one of the federal energy bills had changed that, but apperently not. Greasy B Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 I’m as clueless as anyone so I’ll chime in. Have you ever looked out the window of an airliner when approaching a city in the night? Look at all the empty parking lots and streets lit up. What’s up with that? Are we scared of the dark? Are we afraid of some boogie man? Do we have a need to conquer the natural world by turning night into day? I’m pretty sure it’s because energy is so cheap we can afford such a folly without giving it any thought. Energy conservation and alternate energy sources will never be viable when our cost is so low. Maybe the real question is does our energy cost reflect the actual cost to our environment and society?
