oneshot Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 What's the Biggest Trout you have caught out of the Niangua River? I have never weighed any but I would say 3 or 4 Pounds.Caught a 5 pounder out of Taneycommo but figured I could do better so never had it mounted.Had one I believe bigger on the Niangua but broke my Line just before the Net oneshot
podum Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 18.5 inch brown trout 2009. Weighed no more than 3.5 lbs. Nice fish though. I wish I had more time more than I wish I had more money.
Gavin Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 My dad got and 18" brown on one of the few times I've floated it..I'm sure that there are a few bigger fish but its not managed for them.
Members Scooper Posted May 23, 2013 Members Posted May 23, 2013 Mine was a brown trout that weighed about 4 lbs, I'm guessing. It was caught (and released) in the mid-1990s. My brother caught a rainbow about the same size 10 years earlier. We have not caught anything that big in recent years. There are likley bigger browns in the river, but probably not rainbows anymore. Fishing pressure goes up every year. Attached is a photo of the brown.

Wayne SW/MO Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 Well if we had some giggers on here that work the Niangua, some of them could give you some nice figures. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Greasy B Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 One of the 18 inchers I caught had gig scars. jdmidwest Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 One of the 18 inchers I caught had gig scars. Are you sure it was not stabbed by a heron? "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
Greasy B Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 Two deep, deep vertical gouges on both sides. If you looked at the fish from the top it had a pinched hour glass shaped profile. Same type of scar that would suddenly show up on the trout in the meramec during the fall and winter. A person can never be absolutely certain but...
