I'm always a little skeptical about the boat swing. (See Article years past of Redfins in boat seats and clients legs.) If anyone is going to get it I want it to be me. If I sling one it is really hard to prevent the client from doing the same. Man has that caused problems for us Guides.

I do try and grab them with pliers by the hooks if possible.

On the boga grip, I do have one. Quite possibly I am using it wrong, but I have injured fish with it, by splitting out their lower lip and also by disengaging the outer ring of the fishes lip. May not hurt them, but it really bothers me. If the client is keeping them ie White Bass it is a wonderful tool. If we are releasing them, I just worry to much about the damage.

Buster just uses a brown cotton glove and says its the deal for White Bass.

I have been very lucky "Knock on Wood." Just a few cuts and bruises noting worst yet than an MMA fight.

Thanks and Good Luck

I remember that report. Went out and attached myself to a smallmouth via one of the small yellow magics shortly after. Fish was securely in the net and in the bottom of the boat at the time. You just never know. Of course being a smallmouth it continued to clamp down on the hooked finger, over and over. I have not eaten a bass in well over 25 years, but that one came super close to earning a crisco swim...

**It should be noted that most nine year old girls do cry at the sight of blood (even if not their own), and do not know a pair of diagonal pliers from a toadstool.

Have been considering getting some sort of glove ever since. Left me very cautious when dealing with treble hooks. I can handle the stabby bits on fish without the same concern for the most part. Those don't stay in you.

Back in my up north youth I used one of the chemical resistant (thick rubber coated) gloves to handle pike up to about 10#. Solved the gill flap issue, and was even able to lip them with the glove. Hammer handle pike with a spinnerbait or buzz bait and trailer hook are pretty similar to grabbing at whites with a spoon or TW in their face.

Thinking those daytime TW fish might be around shady docks or bluff places. Have caught them pretty late in the day this time of year, especially on the little chuggers. Or just when they start chasing for no apparent reason.

I fished yesterday from 11:00-5 ish and gotta say 3-4 lb fish were common, my 8 year olg caught a 5.65 lm on a hula grub and we nailed them on a weightless fluke. Threw the thunderstick a bit with no takers and caught 3 on a 4xd. In all ill bet we had 35- 40 fish total with 10 plus keepers.

I love jitterbugs. The new ones seem to have some problems though. Bought a pack that had a frog one, a black one, and a hula popper last summer and the black one didn't float and the green one didn't wobble back and forth. It just plowed through the water. I have some really old wood ones that still work great though even though the paint jobs have seen better days...
