Wayne SW/MO Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 My son swears by black and it makes sense when there is a good moon or a lot of dock lights. It gives a good solid silhouette. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Sam Posted May 26, 2013 Posted May 26, 2013 My fishing partner of 20 years passed away last summer, so we won't go night-fishing again. He was old school all the way - Texas rig, black light, Stren 17 lb. clear blue fluorescent line. His lifelong "secret" (or he thought it was) was to use an 11" motor oil red-flake worm after dark. We caught many a bass on those.
exiledguide Posted May 26, 2013 Posted May 26, 2013 Color doesn't matter at night as long as it's black..........
Jason Essary Posted May 26, 2013 Posted May 26, 2013 Sam, Sorry to hear that. He was correct thou, old school is the way to go. I wonder how people fish serious without a blacklight. It makes a world of difference. Would suggest to anyone that wants to give night time a try to invest in one with some florecent line. Have used the motor oil, for me its more of a moonlight bait. Did he use it in the dark of the moon also with positive results? Members Ultralance12 Posted May 26, 2013 Members Posted May 26, 2013 A spinner bait at night........I gotta try that! Just to add some details...............I caught a good number of small ones during the day on jigs and crank baits while in about 22 ft of water, then the fish started to get larger on top water using a spook during sunset, but noticed I was catching larger fish at night. Caught most on a jig with a dark colored creature bait throwing it right on the bank around some submerged trees. The moon was almost full last night, not sure if that helped the bite. Last time I fished night I was throwing a large red and black deep diving crank and did pretty well that night. I second this. This was my pattern yesterday and last night. Good times.
Sprint21fter Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 Mid and Deep diving plugs will do very well at times when we can't get bit on a spinnerbait. I think somtimes when they hear the vibration they won't bother with it unless it bounces off the trees or the bottom. We work our cranks faster and use stop and go retrieves alot more often especially around trees. You will be suprised how much junk you can walk those cranks through. Other than that we use alot of big soft plastic and jigs with certain size trailers and actions.

dtrs5kprs Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 What am I leaving out? Nothing wrong with a hair jig and chunk/strip at night, on some 6# or 8# line. Other end of the spectrum, and seriously old school.

Yep, lots of ways to do things...back in the day when I fished night tournaments won some bank on 1/4oz jigs on 10lb test especially in the April/May time. I just throw single spins now because I enjoy the bite lol
