Quillback Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 I believe Carpenter is at 17 games and Freese at 18. As well as the Birds are playing, the Reds are hanging in there.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted June 9, 2013 Root Admin Posted June 9, 2013 It's a joy to watch them. Matheny has the luxury to try his new, young pitchers (like yesterday's game) even if it means losing a game here and there because he knows his ball team is in good shape to win the next, with Lynn pitching and the team hitting like it is. These rookie pitchers are brought up under the best of circumstances.... their team is backing them with good play and that gives them the confidence to do well. I remember just a few years ago, Cards were frustrating to watch because their pitching was lagging behind their batting and defense... they just couldn't hold a lead. If they find a closer they're really going to be hard to beat.
moguy1973 Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 That middle relief when the starter struggles is just plain hard to watch. If they get Carp back in a relief job that could help out things tremendously! -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
Quillback Posted June 9, 2013 Author Posted June 9, 2013 They certainly have some depth in their pitching staff. I believe that they drafted a couple of left handers with their 1st two picks in last weeks draft.
Quillback Posted June 10, 2013 Author Posted June 10, 2013 Carpenter and Freese both extended their streaks last night.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted June 10, 2013 Root Admin Posted June 10, 2013 You could see that slam coming... rookie pitcher than wanted to power one by a big hitter, behind on the count... down the middle. He didn't miss.
Quillback Posted June 10, 2013 Author Posted June 10, 2013 Didn't see it, it was past my bedtime. Nice to see the Cards take 2 out of 3 from the Reds.
stlfisher Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 Holiday's grand slam traveled a loooong way last night. I think 460+ feet. Baker's displeasure was quite audible that inning. The Cards are really good and they are young. Could be the start of a nice run over the next several years.

I received a set of Friday game seats as a gift this winter and I'm getting a kick out of going. exiledguide Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 This is a really good ball club They are one of the few teams that play the game right. I believe George Kissell would be proud of this team.I have seen very few teams lose players to injuries and just keep playing well
